Role Overview
PIC , a Genus PLC company, has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a
Production Technician
who is responsible for specialized animal care and technical reporting, along with additional husbandry tasks to ensure the well‑being of the animals.
The successful candidate can work in a culturally diverse, fast‑paced environment, analyze and solve problems independently, and collaborate across functional teams. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. The position also includes assisting with routine laboratory and general tasks such as sanitation, standard operating procedures, and data recording.
The position is based at the Boar Grass GTC facility in Adolphus, Kentucky.
You Will
Perform daily animal husbandry tasks in support of breeding and scientific research, including pig placement, pig healthcare and medication (basic veterinary procedures), feeding management, environment, water, and ventilation management, collection of blood samples, and production records keeping.
Maintain accurate and timely production information and records.
Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and lab/farm goals.
Assist in moving animals and maintaining efficient animal flows.
Treat sick animals with a variety of pharmaceuticals by injection, oral application, and/or other methods as required.
Maintain facility biosecurity, including sanitizing and washing multiple areas with high‑pressure equipment, office cleanliness, and laundry duties to avoid contamination of animals and research samples.
Assist with maintaining lab, office cleanliness, and laundry duties.
Perform semen evaluation on raw semen using a computer‑assisted evaluation program.
Operate packaging machines, including accurate data entry for dose label information and the ability to lift and move pools of semen up to 40 pounds.
Package product for shipment to customers.
Use a computer‑assisted evaluation program to check motility of samples from each batch produced.
Be flexible and willing to change plans according to farm leadership direction.
Adhere to the Company’s animal care policies and procedures: providing a physical environment that meets the animals’ needs, providing access to adequate water and high‑quality feed, providing humane treatment, identifying and treating animals in need of health care, and following guidelines for euthanasia.
Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and its application to their specific worksite.
Abide by all company policies, procedures, and guidelines as directed by farm leadership, including the Company’s Safety Program, bio‑security protocols, and environmental laws; report all environmental issues immediately.
Requirements
Previous livestock handling experience (preferred).
Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations.
Ability to maintain performance expectations in a fast‑paced environment.
Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Minimal, if any, travel.
High school diploma or equivalent.
University degree in animal science field (preferred).
2 years of experience within intensive swine production systems.
