Description
Overview
We are seeking a technically curious, self-directed Technical Writer to create clear, practical documentation for customers, field teams, and internal stakeholders.
This role focuses on user manuals, troubleshooting guides, service documentation, and training materials. The ideal candidate can quickly learn complex systems, translate technical concepts into actionable content, and bridge the gap between engineering and end users.
This is a highly autonomous role requiring independent information gathering, effective collaboration with engineering, and full ownership of documentation. It is not focused on deep engineering specs, but on delivering usable, real-world technical content.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain high-quality documentation, including:
User manuals and installation guides
Troubleshooting and diagnostic documentation
Service and maintenance procedures
Knowledge base articles and FAQs
Create training-oriented content that combines foundational documentation with real-world applications and use cases
Independently gather technical information through interviews, observation, and review of engineering materials (specs, logs, system outputs)
Partner with engineering teams to validate content while minimizing impact on their time
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and actionable instructions for end users and field/service teams
Structure and organize documentation for usability, searchability, and quick reference in field environments
Collaborate with customer support and field service teams to identify documentation gaps and continuously improve content
Maintain documentation standards, templates, and style consistency
Proactively update documentation based on product changes, field feedback, and support trends
Contribute to improving documentation workflows, tools, and processes
Requirements
3+ years of experience in technical writing, documentation, or a related role
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple documentation projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts
Demonstrated experience creating user-facing documentation (manuals, guides, troubleshooting content)
Technical aptitude and comfort working with engineering teams and technical subject matter
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience documenting hardware products, technical systems, or integrated hardware/software solutions
Experience working in an engineering-led or product development environment
Familiarity with documentation and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Notion, or similar)
Experience with structured authoring tools (e.g., MadCap Flare, Paligo, or similar) a plus
Understanding of service workflows, field operations, or customer support environments
Ability to read and interpret:
Technical specifications, logs, or system outputs
CAD models (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) for documentation and visuals
Basic electrical schematics or wiring diagrams
Additional Information
Location: This role is based in Burlington, MA. We are seeking local candidates, as relocation assistance is not available.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
