This position is responsible for executing new member sales, conversions, and upgrades to support the association’s growth objectives. The role manages an assigned book of business, serving as a liaison between SBAM and its members by proactively initiating contact through phone, mail, email, and other networking channels. Occasional travel is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Close new member sales, conversions & upgrades. Independent judgment will be required to evaluate the best tool on a case‑by‑case basis to close a sale.
Engage in significant phone, email, and mail communication with prospective and existing members to promote SBAM memberships and services, foster long‑term member relationships, and keep members informed of new and ancillary offerings.
Upgrade existing members by performing upselling and cross‑selling functions pertaining to the product and service channel opportunities available.
Execute and provide input into membership sales strategies and member retention strategies utilizing the Association’s full product and service offerings. Creativity and discretion will be required to determine the proper tools and techniques used to be successful.
Participate in membership sales and retention strategy development via the SBAM Membership Sales & Marketing team. Participate in the execution of periodic targeted sales/marketing campaigns as directed by the Sales Manager and Sr. Director of Membership & Business Development.
Attend and travel to SBAM Owner‑to‑Owner events across the state, and manage all related sales follow‑up for your assigned book of business.
Maintain an accurate and timely record of activity within the assigned book of business using the Association’s customer relationship management system.
Present updates regarding the status of book of business against goals to the Sales Manager on a weekly basis.
Prepare and present quarterly commission reports to leadership.
OTHER DUTIES
Conduct yourself in a professional manner and in accordance with SBAM employee handbook.
Actively participate in necessary staff meetings involving Membership and Sales, Advocacy and all SBAM employees.
Proactively embrace the mission and goals of all aspects of SBAM, and gain a deep understanding of SBAM culture, history, and strategic plans.
Effectively and professionally communicate with department team members and provide support to department and association staff when requested.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. Skills/Knowledge
Candidate must be a self‑starter that approaches work with a proactive and positive attitude. Position requires excellent oral communication, inter‑personal and presentation skills. The ability to manage multiple projects at once, a data‑driven perspective, and a desire to listen to and serve small business owners are also required. Additionally, candidates must be detailed oriented with excellent follow‑up skills and desire to provide the highest level of customer service.
2. Experience/Education
A bachelor’s degree in professional sales, marketing, or related field. Or, 3‑5 years of equivalent experience in the areas of sales or business development is necessary. Membership sales preferred.
3. Physical effort and dexterity
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and be able to talk and hear, especially via telephone. The employee must also be able to operate a computer keyboard and view a computer monitor.
4. Work environment and scheduling
The regular work environment results in little to no exposure to heat, cold, dust, loud noise or chemicals. Regular working hours for this employee are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The position will operate on a hybrid‑remote basis during the initial 60‑day training and orientation period. Following this period, the role will be primarily remote, with the expectation of attending in‑person meetings at the office on a monthly basis, as well as occasional travel to company-sponsored events.
