Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Director of PR & Communications leads efforts to advance JPS Health Network's internal and external PR and communications strategy. This role ensures that all messaging is aligned with the organization’s mission, voice, and brand, while supporting enterprise goals related to reputation, employee engagement, transparency, and community impact. The Director supervises internal communications, media relations, content development, storytelling and organic social media, working closely with marketing, design, multi-media and web development to ensure integrated planning, storytelling, alignment, and measurable results.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
- Leads and manages a team responsible for internal communications, media relations, content strategy, and social media.
- Oversees the development and execution of the editorial calendar, ensuring integration across platforms and alignment with organizational priorities.
- Collaborates with marketing and design teams, along with other department leaders and executive leadership to align messaging and campaigns.
- Oversees content development and review processes in collaboration with the Vice President of Communications.
- Manages internal communications strategy, including employee newsletters, intranet content, campaign support, leadership toolkits, and town hall materials.
- Guides the creation of patient and team member stories in partnership with communications specialists and multimedia staff, and ensures content strategy supports reputation, engagement, and service awareness.
- Partners with the PR Specialist to shape earned media strategy, ensuring coverage aligns with organizational priorities and performance goals.
- Supports the public information officer (PIO) and crisis communications alongside the Vice President of Communications.
- Develops communications metrics and reporting to optimize reach, engagement, and impact.
- Tracks results of communication efforts across platforms and uses insights to refine strategies.
- Maintains a strong working partnership with the Vice President of Communications to align on priorities, messaging, issues and crisis response, and team development.
- Establishes and maintains communication and PR policies to ensure consistent messaging, brand integrity, and alignment with organizational values. Oversees adherence to internal communication protocols and external media relations guidelines across all departments.
- Develops and manages the communications department’s annual budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources. Monitors expenditures and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of campaigns and vendor partnerships.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- One of the following qualification groupings is required for this position as indicated below:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
- 7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications.
- OR
- Master's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in healthcare, government, or mission-driven organizations.
- Experience supporting crisis communications or functioning as a public information officer (PIO).
- 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
