Temporary Studios Technician

The Temporary Studios Technician plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of studio facilities for print media, painting, and drawing within the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. This position ensures that studio environments are safe, organized, and fully functional by maintaining equipment, managing materials, and overseeing access to specialized tools. You will coordinate day-to-day activities within the studios, ensuring that students and faculty have the resources they need to successfully execute coursework and creative projects.
This is a temporary role beginning July 15, 2026 and ending January 14, 2027.
In this role, you will provide hands-on technical support and instruction to students, assisting with proper equipment use, material selection, and studio processes. You will demonstrate techniques, troubleshoot equipment issues, and help users translate artistic concepts into practical outcomes. Working closely with faculty, you will support course needs and ensure that studio practices align with curricular objectives while reinforcing a culture of safety and accountability.
The Temporary Studios Technician also supervises and coordinates student employees, including training, scheduling, and monitoring performance to ensure effective studio coverage. You will partner with the Manager of Art Studios, facilities staff, and Environmental Health and Safety to maintain compliance with university policies and safety standards. Additionally, you will contribute to inventory management, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement of studio operations, helping to foster an environment of creativity, collaboration, and technical excellence.

The College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University (Cornell AAP) includes the departments of Architecture, Art, City and Regional Planning, the Paul Rubacha Department of Real Estate, jointly led by AAP and the SC Johnson College of Business, the multicollege Department of Design Tech, and the Cornell Mui Ho Center for Cities. What We Need
Associate's degree in a relevant field (BFA preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience
2–4 years of experience in studio arts, with proficiency in printmaking
Demonstrated knowledge of studio equipment, materials, and techniques across assigned areas
Experience providing hands-on technical support and instruction to students or users
Strong understanding of safety practices, including proper handling of materials and equipment
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and maintain tools and facilities
Experience supervising or coordinating student employees or similar groups
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and respectful learning and working environment

Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or advanced training in a related discipline
Experience working in a higher education or academic studio environment
Experience in Painting or drawing environments.
Familiarity with inventory management and equipment lifecycle planning
Experience supporting exhibitions, installations, or gallery operations
Advanced technical expertise in one or more studio areas (e.g., printmaking processes or specialized media)
Compensation - $25-$27/hr.
