CMU is looking for someone who lives and breathes social media. Someone who knows what’s trending before it trends, understands how to tell a story through content, and is excited to build something – not just manage it. This role is about owning our day-to-day presence across CMU’s six main social channels, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging platforms when needed. This role is the brain behind what we post, when we post, and how it all comes together to build energy around a growing university. The Social Media Strategist leads a team of campus contributors across multiple departments who share a goal of storytelling and advancing the mission of CMU through creativity and social media management. The role works directly with the Community Relations and Communications Manager to align organic social with paid campaigns, tackle trends and reimagine what storytelling looks like on CMU’s socials. All content leads back to supporting CMU’s mission by creating meaningful, powerful content that highlights the best of a CMU college experience.**OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS****ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following and other duties as assigned:***Social Media Strategy and Planning**** Ensure consistency, creativity and strategy is implemented across CMU’s social channels* Develop and execute a cohesive social media strategy aligned with market cycles and enrollment goals* Identify opportunities to break through the noise of social media and drive organic growth* Align organic social strategy with paid advertising cycle and admissions milestones to drive enrollments, using data driven insights***Content Management and Development**** Implement hands on video or photography skills to create engaging social media content* Work with a team to develop creative concepts and campaigns and oversee their implementation.* Utilize content creation platforms that optimize clickable and watchable content* Identify opportunities to leverage UGC content that highlights student experiences***Leadership and Community Engagement**** Assemble and lead a team of campus-wide content contributors from multiple departments* Hire and lead a team of students who support trending videos and reels as well as UGC content* Manage DMs and comments to create a personalized, responsive brand experience* Actively engage with the community to build loyalty and strengthen engagement across channels*Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.* **DISCLAIMER - This position description is only a summary of the typical functions of this seat, and not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and areas of accountability.****Experience and Skills:*** Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university* 2-3+ years of experience managing social media for a brand (preferably in higher education, but not required)* Ability to write, edit and proof with attention to audience, tone and nuance.* Experience in creating content (videos, photos, feature stories) for use on social media, websites or advertising.* Demonstrated experience with current and developing social media channels and social media management software.* Organized enough to run a calendar, but flexible enough to pivot when necessary* Passion for storytelling, community building, and brand building* Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.* A valid driver’s license is required.**Preferred*** A portfolio of existing social media content**HOW TO APPLY:**Applicants will be asked to complete an online application by creating a profile and then providing personal and demographic information.
