Pay Range: $1,440 per credit hour

Pay Determination: Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to co‑teach SMC 601. Sports Media & Communications Proseminar (7/9-8/13) on Thursdays 6:00pm‑8:30pm in the 2026 Summer Session II semester. (1 credit)

Course Description
This class is an examination of the sports media field. Students will discuss career paths within the industry, and the roles sports media professionals play. The class also addresses current issues, diversity and ethics in sports media and examination of criticism of the industry. The course is designed to apply the skills being learned in daytime courses of “Boot Camp” in Advanced Media Management, Broadcast and Digital Journalism, Magazine, News and Digital Journalism, Public Relations, and Television, Radio and Film to writing and reporting sports on all platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required.

Masters degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Developing a syllabus.

Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.

Preparing for classes.

Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.

Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid‑semester progress reports and final grades according to university regulations.

Physical Requirements

Ability to personally instruct the class in the assigned classroom on the days it is designated to meet.

Ability to hold office hours on campus.

Ability to grade all assignments and examination.

Tools / Equipment

Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
