Job Description

The

Graphic Artist/Animator

is a key member of the

NBC News Artworks

team, responsible for creating high-quality on-air and digital graphics under tight daily deadlines. This role supports live and taped programming across NBC News platforms, including

NBC Nightly News, Today, Meet the Press, NBC News Now,

and special news coverage.

Graphic Artists collaborate closely with Art Directors, Producers, Editors, and Graphics Operations to translate editorial concepts into clear, accurate, and visually compelling visuals that support NBC News’ journalistic mission.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Design and produce daily broadcast graphics including lower thirds, full-screen graphics, charts, maps, timelines, explainer graphics, and election-related visuals

Create animated graphic elements to support storytelling across shows and platforms

Execute graphics for breaking news, live shows, and special coverage under tight deadlines

Partner with Art Directors and Producers to interpret scripts and editorial needs into visual storytelling

Ensure all graphics meet NBC News brand standards, editorial accuracy, and technical specifications

Make rapid revisions and updates in fast-paced production environments, including live control rooms

Coordinate with Graphics Operations to manage workflow, priorities, and delivery across multiple shows

Prepare and organize graphic elements for playout, handoff, and archival use

Qualifications:
Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of professional experience designing graphics for broadcast news, live television, or comparable fast-paced media environments

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator

Strong understanding of typography, layout, color, and visual hierarchy

Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately under tight deadlines

Strong portfolio showcasing creative, polished motion graphics and design work

Desired Characteristics:

Experience working in a broadcast news or newsroom environment

Strong animation skills, including creating motion graphics that enhance clarity and storytelling

Familiarity with mapping and geospatial tools such as Google Maps, Curious Maps, or XPression Maps

Familiarity with AI-assisted creative tools, including Adobe Firefly or other prompt-based design workflows

Experience coordinating or supporting graphics operations for broadcast news, including scheduling, asset management, and show-based workflows

Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail, particularly with data accuracy and factual content

Ability to collaborate across departments and communicate clearly in high-pressure situations

Interest in current events and visual journalism

Additional Requirements

Willingness and flexibility to work

early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays

as dictated by news coverage

Ability to work extended hours during breaking news, major events, and special coverage

A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities

Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States

Hybrid:

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range

: $60,000 - $85,000
