Seeking a strategic and collaborative Manager, Business Development to support our M&A and Corporate practices in our Washington, D.C. office. This role partners closely with senior leadership and attorneys to drive business development initiatives, strengthen client relationships, and elevate the firm’s market presence across transactional practices.
The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with strong law firm business development experience, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple high‑profile initiatives in a fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Strategic Growth
Lead and execute marketing and business development initiatives for transactional practice groups, including client targeting programs and pursuit teams
Develop high-quality pitches, proposals, presentations, capability statements, and marketing materials tailored to prospective clients
Manage sales pipeline activity and support attorneys with lead development, pitching strategy, and follow‑up
Identify cross‑practice and cross‑regional opportunities to drive client growth and collaboration
Maintain accurate practice experience and business development data within Firm systems and CRM platforms
Collaborate with senior business development leadership to implement strategic plans and track progress against business objectives
Coordinate market research, competitive intelligence, and client briefings in preparation for meetings, pitches, and events
Profile Raising & Thought Leadership
Support initiatives that enhance the visibility and reputation of the Firm and transactional practices through events, sponsorships, PR, rankings, awards, and social media
Lead legal directory and award submissions, ensuring compelling and accurate practice positioning
Monitor market and industry trends and collaborate on client alerts, articles, and related thought leadership content
Events & Client Engagement
Manage strategic planning and execution of client events, conferences, and speaking engagements
Prepare attendee analyses and customized materials to maximize engagement opportunities
Track post‑event follow‑up and client activity within CRM systems
Leadership & Operations
Provide oversight, mentorship, and feedback to junior team members
Support hiring, onboarding, and training initiatives
Manage resources effectively while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
Qualifications
Candidate must have large law firm experience. Minimum of 750 attorneys.
Minimum 7 years of business development and marketing experience within a law firm environment
Experience supporting transactional, corporate, or M&A practices strongly preferred
Strong proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), and business development technologies
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Strong project management and organizational abilities with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment
High emotional intelligence, professionalism, and stakeholder management skills
Flexibility to travel occasionally and adjust hours as business needs require
