Compensation
New hires for this position typically start between $128,462 and $171,283 annually, depending on factors such as work location, experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, internal equity, and market conditions. While the full pay range is provided to support pay transparency, individual compensation will vary within the range based on these factors.

What you’ll do
The Senior Director of Marketing and External Relations is responsible for executing Pioneer Human Services’ marketing, communications and external engagement strategies in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan and Theory of Change.

This role focuses on operationalizing brand strategy, driving revenue-supporting marketing performance and ensuring coordinated execution across communications, digital engagement and policy communications functions.

The Senior Director supervises the Communications Manager, Digital Strategist and Policy Analyst and ensures day-to-day alignment, accountability and measurable results across all external relations activities. This role partners with the Chief of Staff to support broader policy and organizational strategy while maintaining primary responsibility for marketing execution and performance outcomes.

Primary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy Execution and Performance

Translates organizational growth priorities into annual marketing plans with defined deliverables, timelines and measurable targets

Leads implementation of integrated campaigns across brand, digital, enterprise and stakeholder audiences

Develops and monitors KPIs related to visibility, engagement, lead generation and revenue support

Establishes reporting systems to track marketing effectiveness and return on investment

Ensures consistent brand standards and messaging across all platforms

Social Enterprise Marketing and Revenue Growth

Develops and executes marketing plans for each social enterprise business line

Builds customer acquisition strategies and industry-specific positioning plans

Partners with enterprise leadership to identify revenue targets and align marketing campaigns to growth goals

Oversees creation of sales materials, competitive analyses and customer-facing collateral

Supports launch strategies for new and emerging business lines

Implements measurable marketing funnels to drive revenue diversification and market expansion

Communications Operations

Provides direct supervision and performance management for the Communications Manager

Oversees planning and execution of media outreach, content calendars, impact reports and campaign deliverables

Ensures timely, high-quality production of external communications materials

Establishes workflow systems that support cross-department coordination and message alignment

Digital Engagement and Systems

Supervises the Digital Strategist in executing website optimization, email marketing and social media growth strategies

Implements digital performance dashboards to track audience growth and conversion metrics

Ensures digital platforms support enterprise marketing and stakeholder engagement goals

Policy Communications and Coalition Support

Supervises the Policy Analyst in producing policy briefs, stakeholder materials and advocacy communications

Supports coalition-building efforts that advance established policy priorities

Coordinates messaging alignment with legislative strategy led by the Chief of Staff

Ensures public-facing materials reflect approved organizational positions

Team Leadership and Accountability

Supervises and evaluates the Communications Manager, Digital Strategist and Policy Analyst

Establishes clear annual goals and performance standards for each role

Builds internal systems that improve cross‑functional collaboration

Creates structured planning and review processes to ensure consistent delivery of external initiatives

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.

10+ years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or external relations.

5+ years in a leadership or senior management role supervising marketing or communications teams.

Demonstrated experience in strategic marketing planning and campaign execution.

Experience managing budgets, allocating resources and aligning investments to strategic priorities.

Experience using data and market research to inform strategy, measure performance and drive continuous improvement.

Preferred / Desirable

Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Experience in nonprofit communications, mission‑driven organizations, or public sector environments.
