The Center for Economic Democracy (CED) is a US social movement-building organization, growing capacity in our communities to transition capitalism into a just, sustainable and democratic economy. We are seeking candidates for a new Communications Associate position based in the Greater Boston area.

BACKGROUND
The Communications Associate will add capacity and expand CED's work to "educate and inspire people who seek a world beyond capitalism." This position will support CED's ability to develop and deliver high quality communications and learning experiences across a range of audiences as part of our strategy to power movements for economic democracy. The Associate will be an integral part of CED's CommsEd Hub, which manages its own projects and provides support to all other CED programs and campaigns. The Communications Associate will also participate in regular CED staff meetings and organizational responsibilities. CED has a strong and growing culture of internal participatory governance, inspired by the Worker Self-Directed Nonprofit model.
This role is primarily remote, with occasional in-person requirements for certain meetings, events, and retreats. On occasion, evening and weekend work will be part of this role.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Our communications and education work is collectively held by CED's "CommsEd Hub," which will be a team of four (including the Communications Director, Communications Manager and Education and Research Programs Manager). CED's Communications Director will mentor and support the responsibilities of this new role, which involve contributing to CED's overall organizational communications, as well as several CED program areas, in the following ways:
1. Coalition and Program Communications + Digital Organizing
o Coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to co-create earned, owned, and paid media content (social media, press, etc.) for our programs and coalitions (e.g. Coalition for Worker Ownership and Power)
o Develop and distribute messaging for campaigns and projects in collaboration with coalition members and partners through social media, press, newsletters and other channels
o Regularly create graphic and video content to promote engagement for the target audiences in CED's projects and campaigns (e.g. Economics for Emancipation)
2. Organizational-wide Communications & Infrastructure
o Coordinate with external partners and contractors and support relationship management when requested and invited
o Regularly create content for and maintain engagement across CED's social media accounts representing CED's work: BlueSky, Instagram, LinkedIn
o Support adhoc website, fundraising, and general comms efforts on behalf of CED.
o Lead content creation, design, and distribution of newsletters
o Participate in team reflections and goal-setting to refine organizational communications strategy
o Maintain data and reporting needs related to social media and CED's CRM
3. Narrative power-building:
o Participate in the development and distribution of media as part of multi-organizational narrative cohort to inspire and catalyze action toward community ownership and collective governance of economic resources (e.g. Brave Narratives Project / A Collective Future film)
o Engage with other projects at state and regional levels that build narrative power and build relationships with community members, grassroots organizations, and coalitions as they emerge
4. Participate in CED's organizational development and culture work (all staff):
o Team Meetings - participate in all-staff meetings, retreats, Program Circle meetings, and Organizational Management Circle (time bound), including rotating facilitation and notetaking roles
o Team Responsibilities - fulfill general CED staff responsibilities, such as participating in Accountability Processes, annual budgeting, team goal setting, supporting fundraising etc.
o Participate in Internal Learning sessions and informal co-learning with other members of the CED team
o Support coordination between the CommsEd Hub and other circles within CED.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR ATTRIBUTES
Required Skills
Recognizing that any one individual is unlikely to have all of the skills below, a successful candidate will have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in two or more of these areas, and will be excited to grow in the other areas:
Social media, journalism, and/or other communications roles
Visual artistic practice, graphic design
Progressive, multi-racial organizing
Writing for publication
Web development and maintenance
Public narrative for social change work, people-first digital organizing, storytelling, etc.
Organizing for social, economic, and/or environmental justice with an anti-racist, class-conscious, feminist and queer-positive lens
Experience using social media platforms and digital organizing tools to educate and/or mobilize a broad audience, influence decision-makers, and achieve campaign goals
Experience collaborating with contractors, stakeholders, and external partners on shared projects
Interest in developing content knowledge about political economy and economic/racial/environmental justice
Strong writing and communication skills
Experience with Google suite, Microsoft suite, Zoom, and Canva/Adobe Suite tools for content creation
Desired qualities of all CED employees: Demonstrated commitment to economic/racial/environmental justice and systemic change; support reparations for Black and Indigenous communities, has a healthy political analysis of capitalism
Work well independently and across teams, bringing camaraderie, humor, and a can-do attitude
Excellent organizational skills; ability to support multiple projects with competing levels of urgency; ability to balance short and long-term objectives with the big picture
Experience with and/or excitement to step into an increasingly horizontal, collaborative and self-managed leadership structure.
Strong team player with a flexible approach, willing to support with various needs as they emerge
High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal communicator with a collaborative orientation in teams
Can align with CED's guiding team principles:
1. Practice trust (i.e. choosing to trust, earning it, and bolstering it by practice) through rigorous communication, collective reflection and input, and democratic work planning.
2. Create a community of collective care through support and accountability to our own lives, each other, our organizational partners, and the movement.

SALARY & BENEFITS Full-time position, 40 hours/week
Salary: $55,000-$70,000, based on our organization's salary rubric that includes factors like relevant work/lived experience, specialized skills, and relevant credentials
