Mater is seeking a commercially focused and relationship-driven Director, Business Development to lead private growth across our statewide hospital network.
This is a senior leadership role within Corporate Affairs and Growth, responsible for attracting, engaging and retaining Visiting Medical Officers, strengthening GP and referrer relationships, and supporting sustainable growth across Mater’s private hospitals.
You will lead a team of Business Development Managers and GP Liaison Officers, working closely with Hospital General Managers, clinical leaders, marketing, media and communications teams to convert relationships into measurable growth.
Lead Mater’s private doctor attraction, engagement and retention strategy
Build and manage a strong pipeline of VMOs across priority specialties
Identify growth opportunities and workforce gaps
Use data, market insights and CRM tools to track pipeline, conversion and outcomes
Work with marketing, media and communications teams to deliver integrated growth campaigns
Support increased private activity, referral growth, theatre utilisation and specialty development
Lead, coach and develop a high-performing business development and GP liaison team
About you
You are a natural relationship builder with strong commercial discipline. You understand how private healthcare works, how doctors make decisions, and how to turn trust, engagement and market insight into growth.
Established relationships across medical and surgical specialties
Experience in doctor engagement, business development, healthcare growth or private hospital operations
Strong understanding of referral pathways and private medical workforce dynamics
Commercial acumen and the ability to link activity to measurable outcomes
Confidence working with senior clinicians, executives and hospital leaders
Strong communication, influencing and presentation skills
Experience leading teams and driving performance through clear KPIs
