CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

The Multimedia Specialist serves as the agency’s liaison to the community and media, both in person and via social media. This role blends the responsibilities of a communications professional with the creative expertise of a multimedia storyteller, videographer, editor, writer, and on-camera host. The specialist will play a key role in enhancing public engagement and strengthening the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office external and internal storytelling efforts across multiple platforms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Build and maintain strong relationships with community members and media representatives through in-person interactions and social media engagement.

Develop and implement strategies to maximize the agency’s social media presence, enhancing public outreach and community relations.

Assist in oversight of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office social media platforms, ensuring content aligns with the agency’s mission while monitoring audience engagement and responding appropriately.

Provide timely and newsworthy updates about agency personnel and activities to media outlets.

Analyze social media metrics and prepare periodic performance reports for the Deputy PIO.

Manage photography and videography requests, including capturing, editing, and producing high quality visual content such as photos, slideshows, PSAs and graphics.

Conceptualize and develop content for podcasts and public service announcements.

Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing community events, special events, and official functions.

Participate in designing and producing agency exhibits, displays and promotional materials.

Coordinate special projects or programs as directed by the Sheriff or designee.

Provide on-call support for scheduled and unscheduled events including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Perform other related duties as to support the Community Relations department.

QUALIFICATIONS

A.

Training and Experience

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Creative Studio Suite, including Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator.

Previous experience managing social media platforms for government agencies or similar organizations.

Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with rapidly changing conditions.

Strong personal and professional ethics and integrity, demonstrating accountability and reliability in all responsibilities.

Prior experience or education in journalism, mass communications, public relations, marketing, digital media or a related field is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of general office practices, including computer operations, data entry, correspondence, calculations, and use of office equipment (telephone, fax, and copy machine).

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with the community members.

Ability to clearly speak, understand, read, and legibly write in English.

Extensive knowledge and experience with commonly used social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, X – formally Twitter, YouTube, Next Door, etc.)

Knowledge of current technology and trends in communications.

Skills in graphics, photography/videography, design and publishing.

Skills in editing and copywriting

Ability to multitask and work under stressful situations.

Ability to work long hours in demanding environments when necessary.

Ability to demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.

Ability to set goals, develop strategies, and achieve objectives.

Ability to plan events that occur throughout the year.

Knowledge of and adherence to policies, procedures and best practice of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

Ability to deliver a wide range of services to the community.

Ability to have discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive information, relationships, situations.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Acceptable eyesight – with or without corrections.

Acceptable hearing - without or without correction

Possess manual dexterity sufficient to perform required job skills

Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 30 pounds.

Possess a valid FL drivers license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Ability to operate a computer, general office equipment, and video/photo editing software.
