Position Purpose

The OC Fair & Event Center is seeking enthusiastic and highly organized candidates to assist the OC Fair program. The Exhibit Lead will guide the work of other Exhibit Attendants for installation and tear-down of exhibits, perform their daily duties during the annual OC Fair, complete office and administrative support, answer questions from the public and safeguard building entrances/exits and exhibits. The applicant must enjoy working within a flexible team oriented workplace. Tenacity and follow through skills are a must. This is a seasonal/temporary position, not to exceed 122 days.

Essential Functions

Pre and Throughout Fair

  • Provide guidance to other Exhibit Attendants in the execution of their job duties.
  • Help install competitive exhibits for upcoming Fair.
  • Support the entry delivery process of entries.
  • Assist with correspondence for judges, staff, exhibitors and demonstrators.
  • Aid demonstrators with set‑up and as needed.
  • May dispatch building service calls using hand‑held radio.
  • Help during all phases of the judging process.
  • Maintain records and files, coordinate schedules.
  • Provide basic clerical assistance as needed.
  • Handle telephone calls and customer service as needed.
  • Assist Program Coordinator in organizing awards, presentations and ceremonies.
  • During events, safeguard exhibits and watch building entrances and exits.
  • Provide information about the exhibit to the public and answer questions about the exhibit, the event and the property.
  • May clean a variety of exhibit structures and props, prepare them for use, install them where instructed.
  • May operate an electric cart.

Post Fair

  • Assist in the pick‑up process of entries to the public at the end of the event.
  • Dismantle competitive exhibits and return entries to the public at the end of the event.
  • Disassemble exhibit structures and props and store them after the event.
  • Organize and inventory exhibit structures, props and competition materials.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to work pre‑fair (end of May) and post‑fair (late August) with flexible work hours/days.
  • Must be available to work evenings during the 23 days of the annual OC Fair.
  • Previous experience working with the public required.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic and able to handle occasional stressful situations effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills are a must.
  • Must be able to guide others in a team environment.
  • Must be available to work all 23 days of the annual OC Fair.
  • Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as demanded by events and programs.
  • Ability to safely lift objects up to 25 lbs. is necessary.

Preferences

  • Valid CA driver’s license.
  • Computer software skills preferred.
  • Previous experience with competitions preferred.
  • Familiarity with the layout and facilities of the OCFEC highly preferred.
  • Previous experience (or coursework) in a related field preferred.
  • Safely use heavy equipment such as a scissor‑lift, fork‑lift and power tools.
  • Experience leading or guiding the work of others strongly desired.

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, and must frequently use hands and fingers to operate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Work Environment

The employee will work in fast‑paced indoor and outdoor environments. Noise levels are usually moderately loud; quieter levels may be experienced indoors. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
