This role involves negotiating contracts, maintaining high contract compliance, and managing supply utilization for a book of business. The individual will drive cost redirection initiatives throughout the health system by serving as a project manager and consultant to clinical and non‑clinical areas, implement organization‑wide product change, and advocate for product standardization/utilization initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Knowledge of MMIS systems and ability to manage a preprogrammed database.
  • Self‑directed and able to manage major projects with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills and the ability to exercise good judgment and handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities and work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability).

Job Duties

  • Review current and existing contracts to identify contract expirations and coordinate with stakeholders to determine renewal disposition.
  • Manage communications and conduct clinical literature research to support target actions.
  • Support company leadership and clinicians with product utilization, pricing, and quality data to enable the purchase of the most cost‑effective product available.
  • Consult with users throughout the organization to identify, analyze, and facilitate the implementation of non‑salary expense cost reductions.
  • Develop quantitative/qualitative analyses and methodologies for driving cost reduction efforts.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education

Required – Bachelor's degree. Preferred – Master's degree.

Work Experience

Required – 10 years of experience in purchasing in healthcare, or 5 years of experience with a master's degree.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Light Work – exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands include walking or standing to a significant degree, pushing or pulling of arm or leg controls, and working at a production pace that may involve constant pushing and/or pulling of materials.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, and incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. There is no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. However, the role may involve exposure to hazardous medications or waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
