Job Summary
The City of Rockville, Maryland (City) is seeking friendly, dependable individuals to work part-time, unbenefited as Theatre Technician Specialists. This position involves supporting the day-to-day operations of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre & Social Hall, as well as off-site City venues and properties as needed. Theatre Technician Specialists provide essential technical support and assistance for a variety of events, including rehearsals, performances, and other activities, along with coordinating and implementing technical requests from user groups. Applicants must be comfortable working different types of events and with diverse groups of people. This year-round position offers flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
Essential Job Functions
Fulfill technical theatre needs for the City, including (but not limited to) stage lighting, audio, and projections support for events.
Coordinate and implement user group's technical requests.
Conduct all work using City, Civic Center Complex, and F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre policies and procedures, implementing safety requirements as well as entertainment industry best practices.
Troubleshoot issues with equipment, lights, sound, etc.
Complete and distribute written Tech Reports for rehearsals, performances, and events.
Drive the Civic Center's box truck within Civic Center grounds to transport scenery for certain user groups (training is provided).
Act as technical supervisor for user groups in the absence of full-time staff.
Explain policies and procedures for use of the facility to diverse individuals and groups.
Respond to emergency situations by determining and implementing appropriate procedures.
Complete and distribute Incident Reports when necessary.
Inspect facility before, during, and after functions for cleanliness and safety.
Assist with regular maintenance of equipment.
Assist with general facility cleaning and housekeeping tasks.
Restock various venue areas, including restrooms and kitchens.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by courses in theatrical production.
1-3 years of experience in the professional field, including lighting design, audio mixing, carpentry, and run crew.
Recreation and Parks requires all facility staff to get and maintain a valid CPR, AED, and first aid certification (certification is provided through the City).
Possess a valid driver's license.
All employees and volunteers who drive a City owned/leased vehicle or private vehicle on official City business must complete the Maryland Vehicle Administration MVA flagging form and be cleared. Employees and volunteers who possess a driver's license that is not issued by the State of Maryland must submit with the form with an original printout of their driving record. The information on the form will be used by the Department of Human Resources in accordance with the City's Driver's License Check and Flagging Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be willing to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays, sometimes on short notice.
Must work a minimum of two (2) shifts per month when asked, as well as mandatory meetings or events (usually 1-2 per year).
Must have working knowledge of theatre lighting and sound equipment, including setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
Stage management experience preferred.
Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.
Ability to work well and collaborate as a part of a team.
Ability to train and supervise volunteers, clients, and other employees.
Punctual, dependable, and consistent in work output.
Excellent customer service, communication skills (written and verbal), and administrative skills.
Proactive approach to risk management and facility and guest safety.

The schedule of work shifts will be different every month, and hours are based on the needs and event/program schedule at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and for the City of Rockville. Work may be scheduled in the morning, evening, night, weekend, and some major holidays. Shift durations may be between 3 hours to over 12 hours.
