Overview

Aquent is partnering with a globally recognized leader in the action sports industry. This client is dedicated to creating high-quality products for individuals who actively shape culture, emphasizing superior fit, craftsmanship, and execution. This Apparel Technical Designer role is a pivotal opportunity to significantly impact product quality and consumer satisfaction. You will translate innovative design concepts into technically sound, production-ready apparel, ensuring every garment meets high brand standards. Your expertise will influence fit, quality, and execution of products worn by a global community.
This is an onsite role, working onsite 5 days per week in our client’s Costa Mesa, CA office. A background check must be completed/cleared prior to starting this assignment.
Responsibilities

Lead the entire fit process from initial prototypes through final production, providing clear and actionable technical direction.
Communicate comprehensive fit, specification, pattern, shape, and construction updates to global sourcing partners and factories.
Transform design intent into technically executable fit solutions, proactively identifying potential risks and proposing effective resolutions.
Develop, review, and approve garment technical specifications, utilizing established fit blocks, standards, and market benchmarks.
Conduct thorough benchmarking and market research on existing and new silhouettes to guide fit evolution and drive continuous quality enhancements.
Confidently lead fit sessions, articulate fit challenges, propose solutions, and specify required corrections.
Meticulously prepare, review, and assess samples to confirm that all prior fit and construction feedback has been accurately implemented.
Generate detailed and precise fit comments to clearly convey necessary changes to manufacturing partners.
Collaborate with regional partners to ensure adherence to timelines, quality benchmarks, and production requirements.
Champion fit consistency and brand standards by driving block development projects while managing seasonal production demands.
Adhere to product development calendars and standard operating procedures, ensuring timely and accurate fit comments and approvals.
What You Bring

7+ years of dedicated experience in Apparel Technical Design across diverse categories, including tops, bottoms, outerwear, denim, knits, and wovens.
Exceptional ability to evaluate garment fit on live models and forms, with a keen eye for proportion, balance, functionality, fabric behavior, and diverse body profiles.
Profound understanding of garment construction, manufacturing processes, materials, trims, and finishing techniques.
Comprehensive knowledge of the apparel product lifecycle, from initial design concept through production.
Experience utilizing PLM systems; familiarity with patternmaking software is a valuable asset.
Strong proficiency in standard office software and graphic design applications.
Detail-oriented, articulate, and highly organized with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Self-motivated, solution-driven, and adept at thriving in a global, cross-functional, and fast-paced environment.
Must-Have Qualifications

Hands-on patternmaking experience, encompassing pattern development, grading, and garment sizing; deep technical pattern knowledge is essential.
Experience supporting both men’s and women’s apparel lines.
Proven ability to effectively manage multiple seasons, timelines, and priorities simultaneously.
