The Daytona Beach News-Journal is seeking a digital savvy, strategic and community‑mindful Executive Editor committed to audience growth, digital innovation, and powerful journalism in Florida’s competitive market. The candidate should have a collaborative mindset, expertise in news analytics, and a passion for quality journalism.

The ideal candidate is a transformational leader passionate about watchdog and enterprise reporting with deep audience knowledge and community engagement. They must understand new media, visual storytelling, and bring strong communication and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

Uphold journalistic standards across digital and print platforms, support the First Amendment, and pursue watchdog reporting.

Develop and implement a multi‑platform digital vision and strategy to meet audience goals.

Provide leadership across state and local news, investigative journalism, public service, and government issues.

Champion change management, communicating strategic initiatives, vision, culture, and plans.

Plan and oversee content strategies focused on strategic audiences, especially digital and new platforms.

Facilitate strong community connections through editorial voice and interaction.

Attract, retain, and develop top talent.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent education and experience.

Minimum five years in significant newsroom leadership with demonstrated success.

Clear understanding of the First Amendment and high regard for upholding these standards.

Experience in high‑level decision‑making with complex, impactful or sensitive news content.

Experience working in industries undergoing substantial change and transformation.

History of successful leadership, innovation, and goal achievement.

Demonstrated change‑leadership, collaboration, and effective communication.

Personal charisma, comfort with public speaking, and commitment to staff interaction.

Understanding of changing media landscape and adaptability to market and consumer needs.

Strong competitive instincts and intellectual curiosity.

Ability to manage and coordinate within an accountable environment.

Track record in recruiting a highly successful leadership team.
