Responsibilities
Analyze traffic data, data mining and statistical analysis. Monitor intersections with cameras and adjust signal times within that corridor as appropriate. Demonstrate skills of computers and software applications to proficiently operate central signal system. Respond effectively to concerns related to traffic signal operations. Prepare correspondence and technical reports. Experience in conducting a wide array of traffic engineering analyses. Navigate the regional ATMS solution and all relevant systems that operate and/or will operate in the northern Virginia district and the northern region operations. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Qualifications
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A BACHELOR’S DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN CIVIL ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, TRANSPORTATION OR CLOSELY RELATED FIELD PLUS 4 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE AS A TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, OR CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION.
Special Requirements
Demonstrated experience in transportation engineering applications/programs including VDOT's computerized traffic signal system: Statewide Central Signal System (KITS).
Traffic signal optimization and simulation software including but not limited to Synchro, Simtraffic, VISSIM and other traffic analysis software.
Traffic monitoring systems include but are not limited to: ATMS (Open TMS), Automated Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM), and RITIS.
Knowledge of traffic signal and traffic engineering applications including but not limited to Intersection design, pedestrian crossings, smart traffic signals, traffic signal coordination, emergency vehicle preemption, vehicle detection systems, cyclist and pedestrian infrastructure, and parking management.
Experience in analyzing traffic data, data mining and statistical analysis including but not limited to traffic flow analysis, crash data analysis and mitigation, transportation demand and intersection capacity analysis.
Knowledge of state and federal transportation specifications and standards, including but not limited to Signal Timing Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM).
Proficiency to operate central signal system, including but not limited to Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS), Coordinated Signal Control (CSC) Systems, and Congestion Management and Incident Detection.
MUST POSSESS EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE SUFFICIENT TO ADEQUATELY PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB BEING OFFERED. EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE MAY BE GAINED THROUGH EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION. SUCH EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE CANNOT BE "QUANTIFIED" BY "TIME."

$116,709 to $129,200 per year
