Senior Communications Associate (Arlington)

Bullpen Strategy Group, Arlington, VA, USA

Job type: Full Time

Senior Communications Associate

Description
Bullpen Strategy Group (BSG) is a strategic advisory firm that helps clients solve problems, grow, and manage risk. We provide critical insights to inform our clients’ strategies and deliver solutions including strategic counsel and communications, research and analysis, media intelligence, and AI-powered technology solutions.

With a team of more than 50 professionals across offices in Washington, D.C., Dallas, and London, BSG works on some of today’s most high-profile political, corporate, and public policy challenges. BSG’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, leading law firms, major industry associations, and national coalitions.

We're looking for a Senior Associate to join our Communications team. This role is for you if you’re someone who is plugged into the news cycle and identify as an early-career professional who is ready to take on real responsibility and grow inside a fast-moving firm. You don't need to know everything yet on day one, but you should be eager to learn, motivated by the work, and ready to contribute.

What You'll Do
You'll work alongside senior team members to support client communications strategy and execution. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

Media outreach support. Help identify proactive media opportunities for clients, draft pitches and written materials, and flag news moments and events worth pursuing for press coverage.
Content drafting and production. Assist senior staff in creating client-facing communications materials including drafting copy, contributing to press releases and statements, doing basic video editing, and supporting social media posting.
Press list development. Build and maintain accurate, up-to-date press lists for client distribution; learn how to organize contacts by beat, outlet, and geography.
Media relationship-building. Begin developing your own network of reporter and producer contacts across a range of outlets and beats; this is the foundation for a successful career in communications.
News repackaging. Turn press hits, transcripts, and earned coverage into client communications products: newsletters, recap memos, social posts, and internal updates.
Team support. Help senior team members stay organized by tracking deliverables, managing timelines, and contributing to the internal systems that keep client work moving.

What We're Looking For
This role suits someone with 1-3 years of experience who:
Lives and breathes news.

You read multiple papers, newsletters, and feeds every morning. You can tell us what's driving the news cycle this week and why. You understand the political calendar including election timelines, congressional recesses, key policy moments and how they shape what's possible in earned media.
Can separate the client from your own politics . Strategic communications work means serving clients whose positions may not completely align with your own. You understand that distinction, and you can advocate for a client's perspective professionally without compromising your own values privately.
Writes well and often.

You can draft clean copy under deadline like press releases, talking points, social posts, opinion content, weekly newsletters. Your writing is clear, factual, and free of unnecessary words.
Brings energy and initiative.

You don't wait for assignments. When you spot a news hook, you flag it. When you see a process that could be tighter, you propose a fix. You raise your hand for stretch assignments before you've been asked.
Keeps multiple plates spinning.

You can manage multiple competing priorities across multiple clients without dropping things or losing your composure. You ask for help when you need it.
Builds systems as you go.

You're the person who creates the tracker, the shared doc, the running press list. All the small organizational habits that make a team run better.
Is coachable.

You take feedback well, ask questions, and want to learn from people more experienced than you. You also speak up when you have a different view.

What Success Looks Like in Year One
You've become the go-to person for something on your team. That can be press list management, first round content drafting, etc.
Your writing is being used with light edits, not heavy rewrites.
You've identified at least one process or system that's made your team more efficient.
You've earned the trust of senior staff to handle bigger pieces of client work.
