Position Purpose
A person in this position is responsible for receiving, reviewing, and processing applications for new membership accounts. Effectively on-boards all members to the credit union by explaining new account policies and products. Performs maintenance on member accounts as needed, including the addition of specialty accounts. Communicates general credit union information and cross-sells services. Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations as well as company policies.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Open and maintain personal and business accounts

Ensure the new member qualifies for the field of membership.

Open new personal and business accounts and obtain all required documents.

Add/remove joint owners, authorized signers, and beneficiaries.

Manage share accounts (add/remove shares, share drafts).

Enable electronic services and resolve related issues.

Generate ChexSystems and OFAC reports and follow procedures to assess eligibility.

Inform business accounts of merchant services.

Properly close accounts.

Open and maintain share certificates.

Open and conduct transactions on Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs)

Open Roth, Traditional, Simplified Employer Plan, and Coverdell IRA accounts; provide required disclosures and process documentation.

Conduct deposits, withdrawals, rollovers, transfers, and closures in Ascensus and Portico; complete related paperwork.

Answer IRA questions using available resources.

Perform teller functions as needed

Represent the credit union courteously and professionally.

Receive share deposits and loan payments.

Process cash advances, cashier’s checks, and outgoing wire requests.

Disburse cash or check share withdrawals.

Process transfers.

Verify transactions, monitor deposits, examine documents, detect and resolve discrepancies.

Balance daily transactions and verify cash totals; investigate out-of-balance issues.

Rent, access, and close safe deposit boxes

Ensure proper documents and signatures for renting.

Provide members with key envelopes.

Collect annual rental payments.

Assign boxes in Portico and create transfer files for future payments.

Maintain excellent member service

Present a professional, groomed appearance per dress‑code policy.

Greet members cordially via in‑person, email, and phone.

Perform member transactions and resolve problems promptly and effectively.

Return member and co‑worker messages, calls, emails within the same business day when appropriate.

Help members manage checking accounts, debit card issues, home banking issues, provide counseling on money management.

Understand the credit union's mission after training.

Project and maintain the credit union’s quality and professional reputation.

Demonstrate appropriate working relationships

Keep supervisors informed of activities; report suspicious or concerning activity.

Work collectively with the team to accomplish credit union initiatives.

Participate in fundraising and team‑building activities as time allows.

Resolve minor conflicts professionally and promptly.

Refer members to other departments as prescribed, ensuring communication.

Assume related duties as required or assigned

Ensure work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

Perform clerical and other related duties.

Attend and participate in staff meetings and training.

Assist area personnel and other department personnel when necessary.

Provide quality assurance support for lending.

Notarize legal documents for members and non‑members.

Performance Measurements

Account functions performed ethically, in line with policies and regulations.

Provide quality, accurate member service; explain products and services accurately; resolve or refer disputes promptly.

Maintain proper working relationships with staff and management.

Properly analyze and record account applications and related documents.

Identify opportunities to cross‑sell ancillary products.

Award minimum score of (3) in each competency of the performance review to qualify for tier advancement.

Qualifications
Education/Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must complete and maintain all training required to obtain State of Nevada Notary.

Experience:

Six (6) months experience as a teller for a full‑service financial institution preferred. One (1) year prior customer service experience required.

Skills/Abilities:

Courteous and professional communication through effective communication. Maintain a clean and professional appearance. Understand basic operation of computer and office equipment. Effective time management skills and strong analytical and financial skills.

Physical Activities and Requirements

Talking: communicate in English; read and comprehend business communications; use all standard forms of business communication.

Average hearing: normal conversations, ordinary information.

Finger dexterity: use fingers for typing, small movements.

Repetitive motion: frequent wrist, hand, finger movements.

Average visual abilities: visual acuity to prepare or inspect documents or operate office equipment.

Physical strength: sit or stand for long periods; lift at least ten (10) pounds individually, or 20 pounds with a team lift.

Working Conditions
Typical office environment.

Mental Activities and Requirements

Reasoning: exercise independent judgment while carrying out basic instruction; resolve minor to moderate member issues without supervision after training.

Mathematical ability: perform basic math, decimals for ratios and percentages, count cash, balance cash drawer.

Language: communicate effectively and professionally in English; use other languages as appropriate. Comply with English for business and operational requirements.
