Role Description
The Audiovisual Associate will assist in designing, implementing, and supporting advanced audiovisual/multimedia solutions. Responsibilities include creating system documentation, conducting site surveys, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring project specifications meet client needs and industry standards. This is a full‑time, hybrid role based in New York, NY, and involves liaising with clients and project stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of audiovisual system design and integration
Proficiency with CAD software, Revit, or similar design tools
Familiarity with project management processes and ability to manage timelines
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with clients and team members
Basic understanding of acoustics, information technology, and physical security systems is a plus
Ability to work on‑site and collaborate in a team environment
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
CTS, CTS‑D, or related certification is strongly preferred
The candidate must have a thorough understanding and experience of working within highly integrated digital environments of audiovisual and data systems. You will prepare Audiovisual/Multimedia designs, inclusive of audio, video, and control, in support of a broad base of project opportunities. Additional working knowledge of network design is desired. You will have an active role in business development efforts by assisting with proposal development, attending industry networking events, and conducting presentations for the external environment alongside the Senior team in our New York office.
SM&W follows a hybrid work policy. This role requires on‑site presence in the office or at a project site for three days each week, with the option to work remotely for two days.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for audiovisual design, including all phases of the design and coordination from brief, conceptual/technical/detailed design through to construction administration and in use.
Review architectural, mechanical, and structural design and engineering plans and consult on space design, material selection, and multimedia systems.
Perform site surveys to develop client requirements for converged infrastructure, and develop documentation of new or existing systems and building conditions.
Work within a team environment to ensure client standards are met and that all technology systems are incorporated into the overall system design.
Provide production management and assist with coordination to address all aspects of digital networks, including audio, video, and multimedia systems.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, clients, and other interdepartmental personnel.
Serve as a technical resource for others throughout the firm, providing subject‑matter expertise.
Research, develop, and evaluate emerging technology to maximize the firm’s services.
Assure SM&W quality standards with adherence to QA/QC procedures.
Travel 10‑15% domestically and internationally may be required.
Experience / Knowledge
This is a mid‑level position with 3‑7 years of experience in the audiovisual consultancy industry; experience in a client‑facing consulting role is a significant advantage.
BS/Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related science preferred.
CTS, CTS‑D, or CTS‑I certifications are a plus.
Strong knowledge of AutoCAD / functional knowledge of BIM/Revit.
Good to strong knowledge of ICT services and cabling infrastructure.
