Your New Role
The Senior Reporter/Writer, Pop Culture and Power will help drive CNN’s digital features coverage of power, fame, pop culture and the various global industries centered in Los Angeles. This role produces ambitious, deeply sourced reporting that illuminates the personalities and forces shaping contemporary culture. The ideal candidate brings exceptional editorial judgment for high impact, authoritative journalism.

Your Role Accountabilities

Develop and maintain a sophisticated network of sources across entertainment, talent representation, digital creator communities, and adjacent industries that influence pop culture.

Report on the individuals, systems, and emerging trends that shape culture.

Produce a broad range of feature storytelling, including deeply reported narratives, profiles, analytical pieces, and timely cultural coverage aligned with news and audience demand.

Identify early signals of cultural movement—from industry conversations to online behavior—and convert them into well-sourced, insightful journalism.

Write with clarity, authority, and narrative sophistication across formats, contributing daily coverage as needed.

Contribute to storytelling across text, video, audio, newsletters, and repeatable digital formats, adapting reporting to meet audience and platform needs.

Uphold CNN’s highest standards of accuracy, ethics, sourcing, and editorial rigor throughout all stages of reporting.

Qualifications & Experience

8+ years of a strong record of features, enterprise work, and cultural journalism.

Demonstrated success in cultivating deep and reliable sourcing within entertainment, cultural industries, or adjacent fields requiring discretion and nuance.

Advanced understanding of the entertainment, pop culture, and creator ecosystems—including how industry and audience dynamics evolve across demographics, technologies, and platforms.

Proven ability to produce high-impact storytelling across a variety of formats, including longform features, profiles, and timely cultural pieces.

Exceptional writing, interviewing, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret cultural signals and provide clear, contextual explanation.

Strong fluency in digital culture— including social platforms, content ecosystems, influencer dynamics, fandom communities, and emerging behaviors online.

Demonstrated ability to independently manage a complex slate of stories, work under deadline, and consistently deliver high-quality journalism.

Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in team-oriented, cross-functional digital news environments.

Experience or interest in storytelling across multimedia formats (video, audio, newsletters) is a plus.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
