Overview
At DICK’S Sporting Goods, every season starts with delivering an exceptional in‑store experience for athletes and fans alike. As the Director of Visual Merchandising (Licensed), you will lead the strategy, execution, and evolution of visual merchandising across one of our fastest‑growing and most dynamic categories—licensed products. The Director of Visual Merchandise (License) is responsible for the conceptualization, development, and communication of comprehensive visual merchandising strategies and programs for licensed categories. This role drives cross‑functional engagement and partnerships to ensure a 360‑degree approach to merchandising initiatives across professional, collegiate, and emerging licensed businesses, delivering cohesive and scalable presentations that elevate the brand experience. You will ensure all outputs align with the brand vision and create compelling in‑store experiences that are intuitive for the customer, executable for store teams, and drive sales, margin, and growth—while bringing licensed assortments to life in a way that connects deeply with athletes, fans, and collectors.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and Execute Licensed Visual Merchandising Strategy
- Work strategically with cross‑functional teams (merchants, planning and allocation, marketing, store operations, field teams, and vendor partners) to develop standard and seasonal in‑store presentations grounded in customer insights.
- Translate complex licensed assortments—including pro teams, NCAA, and emerging categories—into clear, compelling merchandising stories that resonate with athletes and fans.
Lead End‑to‑End Visual Execution
- Lead the corporate visual team in both creative and operational processes from concept to in‑store implementation.
- Develop and deliver floor sets, planograms, adjacency strategies, and presentation standards that support a cohesive merchandise experience and drive business performance.
- Ensure execution excellence across both traditional merchandising and new concept environments.
Lead High‑Growth Licensed Initiatives & New Concepts
- Drive visual execution for evolving business concepts including licensed partnerships, consignment shop‑in‑shops, and collector‑focused experiences.
- Support scaling and rollout of new in‑store concepts across the fleet, ensuring consistency while adapting to different store formats.
- Partner cross‑functionally to operationalize new initiatives and ensure readiness for large‑scale deployment.
Build and Develop Talent
- Deliver strong leadership through hiring, developing, coaching, and mentoring team members, including senior manager and manager‑level talent.
- Strengthen team business acumen and ability to execute against key responsibilities and evolving business needs.
- Lead succession planning and professional development initiatives.
Drive Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Project Leadership
- Direct and manage special projects and in‑store events with vendor and licensed partners.
- Align with merchants on strategy, budget, and timing; author project charters; develop work plans; and execute against key deliverables.
- Ensure alignment with broader merchandising and business strategies.
Partner On Store Design And In‑Store Experience
- Collaborate with Store Design and Construction on layouts, fixtures, and in‑store environments for new stores, remodels, and licensed category initiatives.
- Support the evolution of the in‑store experience as licensed and collector categories expand in scale and complexity.
Ensure Field Adoption & Execution
- Facilitate training workshops, merchandising strategy overviews, and communications with field leadership.
- Drive adoption, compliance, and execution consistency across the store fleet.
Qualifications
Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Degree concentration in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, Communications, Brand Development, or related field preferred.
Experience Requirement
- 7–10+ years of experience in retail visual merchandising, presentation, or related function.
- Experience leading large‑scale merchandising strategies across multiple locations.
- Proven experience working cross‑functionally within complex retail environments.
