Role
Nationwide User Experience (UX) is hiring a designer on the Property & Casualty design team.
Key Responsibilities
Iterate across discovery and strategy activities, ideation, concepting, interaction and visual design refinement with a team of designers, digital product managers, engineering and industry experts.
Design interaction, flow and navigational schemes for web-based sites and applications, including mobile devices when appropriate.
Step in on additional design assignments as they arise.
Provide creative, technical and strategic input and results to project teams.
Collaborate with partners, product managers, technologists, UX peers and others across the company on technical and creative direction.
Advocate for empathetic human‑centered design and help mitigate risks by pursuing work based on insights and an understanding of users.
Problem‑solve, think big and explore divergent ideas while converging and building iteratively toward the best solution for multiple platforms.
Participate in idea‑generating sessions and capture and evaluate ideas with respect to technical feasibility, business viability and human desirability.
Think strategically and connect work to a larger picture.
Ideal Candidate
We seek a candidate who demonstrates strong interactive design skills, a thorough understanding of human‑centered design processes, and the ability to communicate and influence design solutions that meet user needs and business objectives. The candidate should be comfortable with ambiguity, able to ship desirable products, and skilled at sharing, evangelizing and iterating ideas with the team and stakeholders.
Key Skills & Experience
Strong interactive design skills.
UX interaction design with solid grasp of visual design; less focus on research and content strategy.
Experience with web usability, design and information architecture principles.
Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced work environment.
Knowledge of evaluative research methodologies.
Experience with AI‑powered tools and responsible use of AI, including understanding constraints, risks and ethical implications.
Experience whiteboard sketching and ideation.
Background in consumer applications within insurance, financial services, startups or technology companies.
Proven ability to build positive, collaborative relationships across teams and functions.
Education & Qualifications
Undergraduate studies in UX, human‑computer interaction, psychology, graphic design, information science, communications or related field preferred.
Three or more years of professional experience practicing aspects of human‑centered design.
Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain design rationale to other parts of the business.
Basic understanding of UX principles and the human‑centered design process.
Ability to leverage data to make informed design decisions.
