Associate of the First Line Risk and Controls Negative News Research and Investigations Escalations
Morgan Stanley ("MS") is a global financial services firm that conducts its business through three principal business segments – Institutional Securities, Wealth Management (WM), and Asset Management. Morgan Stanley provides comprehensive financial advice and services to its clients including brokerage, investment advisory, financial and wealth planning, credit and lending, deposits and cash management, annuities, insurance, retirement, and trust services.

The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is embedded within the Firm's business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding, enhanced due diligence, and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.

The Associate of the First Line Risk and Controls Negative News Research and Investigations Escalations is part of the team responsible for executing a centralized function that reviews escalations of alerts generated from negative news screening (NNS). The Associate will review alerts to ascertain relevant financial crimes and reputational risk matters. The NNS Escalation Team Associate will perform these activities through the Firm's centralized NNS tools and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform in-depth reviews and investigations into complex matters related to negative news to determine possible or existing financial crimes and/or any relevant reputational risk impact to the Firm.

Execute processes and tasks supporting the Firm's centralized NNS program.

Communicate with front office and risk personnel during the course of reviews where needed.

Complete and document escalation dispositions, including aggravating and mitigating factors.

Engage in further escalations to Senior stakeholders within Wealth Management, U.S. Banks and/or ETRADE businesses, and prepare relevant working group/forum information as applicable.

Assist with actions or remediation of risk issues with partners in First Line Risk and Controls, Global Financial Crimes, Compliance and the Business Units.

Update policies, procedures and desktop guidance.

Participate in projects/initiatives to enhance the NNS processes and mitigate related risk exposure.

Qualifications:

Have 2-4 years of relevant experience with BSA/AML Regulations within the financial services, industry, or at a financial services regulator (e.g., FINRA, Securities and Exchange Commission, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Bank, etc.) or

Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, or other related field.

Strong knowledge of Know Your Customer and Customer Identification Program, CDD and EDD requirements and expectations.

Has research and investigative experience.

Able to analyze information for appropriate decision-making.

Can work both independently and in a collaborative setting to attain results.

Possesses strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Has strong work ethic as well as a high degree of integrity.

Able to work in a high volume, fast paced environment.

Can work both independently and with team members, under tight deadlines to meet required regulatory and or service level agreements.

Able to work in a matrixed organization; leveraging resources across the organization to complete deliverables.

Can handle highly confidential information professionally and with appropriate discretion.

Proficient with use of MS Office.

Certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license is a plus.

Compensation: New York – Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $90K-$110K per year at the commencement of employment. Base pay will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
