As a designer, you will work with a mix of nonprofits, brands, and causes to build cohesive, action‑oriented campaigns and engaging audiences with compelling visual storytelling. You’ll collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of strategists, writers, analysts, creative directors, and clients.

The Team
Designers at Blue State are curious, passionate, and eager to collaborate across disciplines. They are thoroughly immersed in design, able to work quickly, autonomously, and with polish. They understand how to use design to provoke action, aid understanding, and clarify information.
A day in the life
Support (and sometimes lead) the visual design of email and social fundraising campaigns.
Collaborate with strategists and creative directors in developing creative solutions; present and explain designs to the internal team and iterate based on feedback.
Stay up to date on technology and design best practices and trends to keep our work and team ahead of the curve.
We approach in‑office work with a hybrid model. On‑site presence is welcome for U.S. staff within commuting distance of the NY or DC office. Managers retain discretion to require in‑person attendance for teams or roles that need it. To enter our U.S. offices or attend Blue State events, staff and visitors must be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19, including a booster when eligible, unless an exemption applies.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $60‑$85 per hour; compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Qualifications
Flexible skills: Versatile design aesthetic with brilliant examples of reaching active audiences across styles and online platforms. Prior experience in After Effects and Figma is a plus.
Proven track record: 3+ years of professional digital design experience, resourceful, inspired, self‑driven, and capable of juggling multiple projects.
Thoughtful: Strong conceptual and strategic thinking, advanced grasp of how your work fits into a larger vision.
Adaptability: Ability to solve problems on the fly and communicate with teammates; teamwork and scrappiness required.
Passion for change: Comfort with ambiguity, restlessness that resists the status quo, and commitment to quality.
