Overview
The South Carolina Human Affairs Commission seeks a Community Relations Consultant to oversee region and assist in community relations and outreach programs establishing Community Relations Council (CRC).
Responsibilities
Creates and recognizes (through Memorandum of Agreement) advisory agencies and conciliation councils in accordance with Section 3 of Article 1 of the State Constitution and the South Carolinas Human Affairs Law (SCHAL).
Plans with elected and local leaders to create and/or revitalize Community Relations Councils throughout the state, conducting, planning, and training sessions.
Provides booklet/on‑line copies of 2020 Community and Race Relations Guide to ensure proper establishment of CRCs and address problems that can be addressed by local citizens.
Works with stakeholders, maintains communication, provides guidance and support to address issues at the local level (town, city, or county) to contribute to resolving problems and issues in human affairs.
Coordinates the use of mediation or other tools to assist in resolving highly charged and divisive issues.
Implements the Community Relations Division Alert System, providing training statewide for local emergency management personnel, community grassroots leaders, churches, 501(c)(3) organizations, and local citizenry.
Coordinates and manages special events for the Community Relations Division in conjunction with partners from state colleges and universities, state and federal partners, stakeholders, and state citizens.
Performs all other duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience in community relations, mediation, human relations, training, or related areas.
