KPIX-TV is looking for a true weather enthusiast who’s passionate about telling weather stories in groundbreaking ways. The kind of person who thrives in an innovative, trail‑blazing environment, with the confidence to take risks and break outside traditional weather presentation. Our meteorologists work in a state‑of‑the‑art immersive, 3D weather presentation system. This position is for someone who truly wants to be a pioneer, and very serious about the science of meteorology.
The meteorologist will provide weather reports for KPIX-TV, PIX+, and 27/7 streaming and digital platforms. Must be comfortable learning new graphic and presentation software and systems. Must be able to utilize graphics, NWS sources, and live radar to convey urgent information for storms and severe weather ensuring KPIX fulfills the mission of First Alert Weather. Must have knowledge of earthquakes and plate tectonics to present breaking news information on earthquakes and their potential impacts. Occasionally may be assigned to cover stories outside the station – on location. Write clearly and interestingly and use video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas in the story. Will also be available to make personal appearances to promote the station. This position is represented by SAG‑AFTRA.
Responsibilities
Provide weather reports for KPIX-TV, PIX+, and 27/7 streaming and digital platforms.
Learn new graphic and presentation software and systems and use them effectively.
Utilize graphics, NWS sources, and live radar to convey urgent information for storms and severe weather.
Present breaking news information on earthquakes and their potential impacts.
Cover stories outside the station on location, if assigned.
Write clear and engaging content and use video and graphics to illustrate facts and ideas.
Make personal appearances to promote the station.
Qualifications
At least five years of television experience, with a minimum of three years as a meteorologist, working in local market or network television news.
In‑depth presentation and oral communication skills.
Proven success in digital content development and engagement.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of personnel.
Engage in live reporting effectively and engagingly.
Familiarity with the Bay Area is very helpful.
College degree preferred or equivalent experience.
Proficiency in weather computers and graphics skills.
Physical Demands
Must be able to operate the technology with accuracy and speed. Must be able to perform in a virtual reality environment, which requires a lot of movement through the space. Must have a valid driver’s license.
