JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE
The Communications & Marketing Coordinator will play a vital role in creating content and executing communications and marketing strategies that promote the Alaska Native Heritage Center’s programs, events, and social enterprises. This position works closely with the Sr. Manager of Communications & Marketing to implement campaigns, manage digital platforms, and support the timely execution of communications initiatives. Responsibilities include creating engaging multimedia content, managing social media channels, and coordinating media outreach and communications efforts. This role works interdepartmentally to support both internal and external communications needs for the Alaska Native Heritage Center while ensuring consistency in organizational messaging across all platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with the development and execution of communications and marketing plans to promote ANHC’s mission, programs, events, and social enterprises.

Design visual assets, including social media graphics, promotional materials, marketing collateral, and event flyers.

Create engaging content for various platforms, including social media, ANHC’s website, newsletters, and press releases.

Manage and enhance ANHC’s online presence through social media channels and website updates.

Capture photo and video content during ANHC’s programs, events, and seasonal activities while maintaining a centralized digital asset library.

Provide on-site communications support for events, including content capture, live posting, and coordination with internal teams.

Collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.

Coordinate interdepartmentally to ensure the Communications & Marketing Department is informed of organizational programs, initiatives, events, partnerships, and social enterprise highlights to supply timely storytelling, audience engagement, organizational visibility, and revenue-generating efforts.

Monitor and analyze communication efforts, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.

Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in communications and marketing.

Assist with communications and marketing initiatives across a variety of media sources, including coordinating media visits, supporting media outreach, assisting with press materials, and helping facilitate interviews and promotional opportunities.

Assist in administrative tasks including, but not limited to, press release writing and distribution, speech writing, board report development, content development, and other administrative tasks as assigned.

Provide support to the President & CEO and key leadership staff including but not limited to communications support, media coordination, and on-site support for events.

Provide support to the Development team as needed, including event-related communications needs and donor engagement support when appropriate.

Maintain a working knowledge of ANHC exhibits, programs, campus spaces, and organizational initiatives and assist with tours, media visits, VIP experiences, and guest engagement efforts when needed.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to work independently and proactively to ensure effective direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of department goals and initiatives, as well as demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative cross-department team environment.

Proficiency in social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok), including content creation, scheduling, advertising, and analytics.

Experience with design and content tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.

Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact, and event or engagement tools such as Eventbrite and SurveyMonkey.

Ability and willingness to learn and manage a variety of digital platforms and communication tools.

Proven experience in communications and marketing roles.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to maintain a positive working environment and effectively communicate with staff and supervisor regarding status and progress of projects.

Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Strong attention to detail, including proofreading and ability to meet deadlines.

A Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.

Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.

Interacting with others in a positive manner and maintaining good working relationships among diverse partners and customers.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and high expectations for responsiveness.

Experienced as intermediate to advanced proficiency in effectively using the following software, MS SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Also experience in using MS Projects or similar project management/tracking software.

Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures, customs and languages preferred.

Have basic understanding of ANHC’s mission, direction, and history or be willing to receive training.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Additional duties as assigned based on needs of the business.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Weather: Indoors: primarily in an environmentally controlled office, on or off-site; Quiet to moderate.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
