Job Title: Associate Director of Campus Ministry for Liturgy, Faith Formation, and Vincentian Initiatives
Reports to: Director of Campus Ministry for Liturgy, Faith Formation, and Mission Communication
Job Summary
Coordinate and execute the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program on campus for students and employees; moderate the St. Vincent de Paul Society; collaborate with the Liturgy and Faith Formation area in running faith‑formation programs; support Daily Mass and Sunday Night Mass student community; supervise Campus Minister for Music Ministry & Faith Formation and Part‑Time Sunday Music Minister.
Essential Functions
Faith Formation
Coordinate and execute the OCIA program for students and employees.
Recruit and provide formation for students preparing to join the Catholic Church.
Manage weekly presentations to the Queens student cohort from mid‑late September through the third week of Easter.
Schedule sessions with employees; provide one‑on‑one support to catechumens and candidates.
Execute retreats during the Purification and Enlightenment period; plan and organize the Rite of Acceptance and Rite of Election leading up to the Reception of the Sacraments Mass in the Easter season.
Work with the local bishop and his office to execute the reception of the sacraments; collect and process all paperwork in accordance with Church law in collaboration with St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish.
Collaborate with the Liturgy and Faith Formation area on other faith‑formation programs, including Advent, Lent, and other initiatives.
Work with the Graduate Assistant for Faith Formation on regular programming efforts; assess and explore need for additional faith‑formation groups or initiatives.
Liturgy
Support the Sunday Night Mass student community; be present for all Sunday Night Masses.
Ensure all student and logistical operations are prepared, including checking in and briefing liturgical ministers, music ministry, sacristans, and communicating arrangements to the celebrant.
Provide regular feedback on community needs, trends, and experiences to the Liturgy Committee.
Serve as a member of the Liturgy Committee; assist at liturgical celebrations and special Masses with tasks such as checking in participants, coordinating ushers, and ensuring participant preparedness.
Train student liturgical ministers; be available for select liturgies outside of work hours when needed.
Vincentian Mission Initiatives
Lead the student‑run faith‑based service organization in partnership with Student Government Inc. and Student Activities.
Monitor a full calendar of service during the academic year; train and support the executive board.
Arrange and support student leaders representing St. John’s University at local and national conferences.
Ensure collaboration and compliance with SVDP Rule, Manual, and By‑Laws; maintain external collaboration with SVDPLI and oversee participation in external events.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervise the Campus Minister for Music Ministry & Faith Formation and Part‑Time Sunday Music Minister.
Qualifications
Understanding of Roman Catholic dogma and doctrine as taught by the Magisterium.
Ability to offer and direct catechesis to adults or young adults in a higher education setting.
In‑depth knowledge of the Vincentian Charism.
Demonstrated ability to support students’ well‑being through spiritually grounded accompaniment, including mental‑health awareness and referral practices.
Flexibility, problem‑solving, planning and organizing, and strategic thinking.
Physical demands: occasional standing, moving, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs; vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or related field.
5+ years of experience in campus ministry, pastoral ministry, or Catholic young‑adult education.
Preferred Education and Experience
Master’s in Theology.
2 years of supervision experience.
Position Type / Expected Hours
This is a full‑time position. Days and hours: Monday—Thursday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Friday 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.; Sunday 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. The role may require longer‑than‑normal weekday hours, weekend work, and travel primarily local.
