Job Summary

  • Coordinate and execute the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) program on campus for students and employees.
  • Moderate the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
  • Collaborate with members of the Liturgy and Faith Formation area, including the Graduate Assistant for Faith Formation, to run other faith formation programs.
  • Provide support to the Daily Mass and the Sunday Night Mass student community, especially in training and development of student liturgical ministers.
  • Support the work of the Liturgy and Faith Formation area at other regular and special liturgical functions and as a member of the Liturgy Committee.
  • Directly supervise the Campus Minister for Music Ministry & Faith Formation and the Part‑Time Sunday Music Minister.

Essential Functions

Faith Formation

  • Coordinate and execute the OCIA program, recruiting and providing formation for students preparing to join the Catholic Church or complete their initiation sacraments.
  • Manage weekly presentations to the Queens student cohort from mid‑late September through the third week of Easter, and schedule sessions with employees.
  • Provide one‑on‑one support to catechumens and candidates, including a retreat during the Purification and Enlightenment period.
  • Plan and organize the Rite of Acceptance and Rite of Election leading up to the Reception of the Sacraments Mass in the Easter season.
  • Work with the local bishop and his office to execute the reception of the sacraments, collecting and processing all paperwork in accordance with Church law in collaboration with St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish.
  • Collaborate with the Liturgy and Faith Formation area on additional faith formation programs such as Advent, Lent, and other large‑scale initiatives.
  • Work with the Graduate Assistant for Faith Formation to execute regular programming efforts and assess the need for additional faith formation groups on campus.

Liturgy

  • Provide support to the Sunday Night Mass student community, ensuring all student and logistical operations are prepared and functioning.
  • Be present for all Sunday Night Masses, checking in and briefing all liturgical ministers, music ministry, sacristans, and coordinating any special arrangements with the celebrant before Mass.
  • Serve as a representative to the Liturgy Committee, providing regular feedback on community needs, trends, and experiences.
  • Assist at liturgical celebrations and special Masses, handling tasks such as checking in participants and priests, coordinating ushers, and ensuring participant preparedness.
  • Train student liturgical ministers and be available for select liturgies outside of work hours when needed.

Vincentian Mission Initiatives

  • Moderate St. Vincent de Paul Society and collaborate with Student Government Inc. and Student Activities for faith‑based service organization leadership.
  • Monitor a full calendar of service during the academic year, training and supporting the executive board.
  • Arrange and support student leaders at local and national conferences, ensuring compliance with SVDP Rule, Manual, and By‑Laws.
  • Maintain external collaboration with SVDPLI, overseeing student participation in external events and opportunities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the Campus Minister for Music Ministry & Faith Formation and the Part‑Time Sunday Music Minister for performance management.

Competencies

  • Understanding of Roman Catholic dogma and doctrine as taught by the Magisterium.
  • Ability to offer and direct catechesis to adults or young adults in higher education.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the Vincentian Charism.
  • Support students’ well‑being through spiritually grounded accompaniment and mental‑health awareness with appropriate referrals.
  • Mentoring/Accompaniment.
  • Flexibility, problem‑solving, planning and organizing, and strategic thinking.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and in a church building. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, and liturgical items.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to stand, move about, sit, carry work, use controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, and lift or move up to 10 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

Full‑time position. Days and hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.; Sunday, 5:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Longer‑than‑normal work days, including weekend work, may be required.

Travel

Primarily local; may include visits to regional Vincentian‑affiliated sites.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience in campus ministry, pastoral ministry, or Catholic young‑adult education.
  • Some supervision experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s in Theology.
  • 2 years of supervision experience.

Salary Information

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $71,400.
