Band Director
Geneva County Schools is seeking a Band Director to lead and develop a comprehensive music program. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution, certification by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area, and meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and state Board of Education requirements.
The Band Director will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and develop skills as a performer and as one who appreciates and enjoys music.
The Band Director will report to the Principal and supervise assigned personnel. The performance responsibilities include planning and implementing a balanced music program, creating or selecting long-range plans, defining goals and objectives, sequencing content and activities, identifying specific intended learning outcomes, revising plans based on student needs, planning and preparing a variety of learning activities, developing or selecting instructional activities, utilizing public performance opportunities, working with booster organizations, preparing band and individual members for competitions, working closely with other school organizations and departments, working with community groups and organizations, planning and preparing lessons and instructional strategies, selecting, developing, modifying, and/or adapting materials and resources, establishing and maintaining a positive and safe learning environment, maintaining a clean, attractive, and organized learning environment, maintaining academic focus, establishing and using behavior management techniques, establishing routines and procedures, creating a learning climate, maintaining instructional momentum, establishing and maintaining effective and efficient record keeping procedures, organizing procedures, practices, materials, and routines, instructing and supervising the work of volunteers and aides, assisting in enforcement of school rules, developing and using assessment strategies, interpreting and using data, using ongoing assessment to monitor student progress, providing feedback to students, communicating individual student progress, encouraging self-assessment by students, providing opportunities for students to perform, evaluating the effectiveness of instructional units and teaching strategies, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of curriculum content, communicating high learning expectations for all students, applying principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery, monitoring learning activities, using appropriate techniques and strategies to enhance the application of critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of students, assisting students in assessing, interpreting, and evaluating information from multiple sources, providing appropriate instruction and modifications for students with special needs, providing quality work for students, fostering student responsibility, appropriate social behavior, integrity, valuing of cultural diversity, and respect for self and others, communicating effectively orally and in writing, collaborating with students, parents, school staff, and other appropriate persons, providing accurate and timely information to parents and students about student performance, working with other teachers in curriculum development, special activities, and sharing ideas and resources, recognizing overt indicators of student distress or abuse and taking appropriate intervention, referral, or reporting actions, engaging in continuing improvement of professional knowledge and skills, assisting others in acquiring knowledge and understanding of particular area of responsibility, keeping abreast of developments in instructional methodology, learning theory, curriculum trends, and content, conducting a personal assessment periodically to determine professional development needs, developing and implementing a Professional Development Plan annually in accordance with state and system requirements, acting in a professional and ethical manner and adhering to professional standards at all times, performing assigned duties, demonstrating attention to punctuality, attendance, records, and reports, maintaining confidentiality of student and other professional information, complying with policies, procedures, and programs, exercising appropriate professional judgment, supporting school improvement initiatives by active participation in school activities, services, and programs, ensuring that student growth/achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group subject area and/or student program classification, and performing other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
Physical requirements include medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
Terms of employment include salary and benefits paid consistent with the System's approved compensation plan, length of the work year and hours of employment established by the System, and performance evaluation in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
