"A Comedy of Tenors" Auditions

Audition Information
Runway Theatre is excited to hold auditions for A Comedy of Tenors by Ken Ludwig. Runway's production will be directed by Byron Holder, and the production will run July 24 – August 9, 2026 (Friday‑Sunday).

Audition Dates: Sunday, May 31 & Monday, June 1, 2026.
Audition Time: 7:00 pm each evening.
No appointments are required.
Audition Location: Runway Theatre – TX 76051.

Characters & Requirements

Tito

– Male, 50‑69 y.o., all ethnicities.
The world’s most famous opera singer.
Requires a strong Italian accent, high‑energy diva behavior, and operatic singing ability, specifically the "Drinking Song" from La Traviata.
Double role with Bellhop (Beppo).

Beppo

– Male, 40‑69 y.o., all ethnicities.
Lookalike bellhop to Tito.
Requires a French accent.

Saunders

– Male, 50‑69 y.o., all ethnicities.
The American opera manager.
Loud, frantic, high‑strung, over‑the‑top, often speaking with a poor French accent.

Max

– Male, 30‑49 y.o., all ethnicities.
Saunders’ assistant who is now an opera singer.
Married to Maggie, anxious but smart, and a strong tenor singer.
Must be capable of singing operatic pieces, specifically the "Drinking Song" from La Traviata.

The new rising opera star

(unnamed) – Handsome, strong tenor voice, required to appear in underwear in some scenes.
Must be capable of singing operatic pieces, specifically the "Drinking Song" from La Traviata.

Maria Merelli

– Female, 40‑69 y.o., all ethnicities.
Tito’s hot‑blooded, explosive Italian wife.
Stylish, loud, and fiery.

Mimi Merelli

– Female, 20‑39 y.o., all ethnicities.
Tito and Maria’s daughter.
An aspiring actress, romantic with Carlo.
Requires appearing in underwear.

Tatiana Racon

– Female, 30‑45 y.o., all ethnicities.
A glamorous, passionate Russian soprano.
A former lover of Tito.

Bellhop/Jacques

A small role often played by the actor doing Beppo, requiring a French accent.
