Summary
Technical Writer responsibility is to research and translate technical information into operational and maintenance manuals and/or web-based documents for non-technical and technical users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Understand technical concepts of the program and translate technical information into understandable text and graphics.
Work closely with hardware engineering to write operational and maintenance manuals.
Develop technical manuals to meet customer format requirements.
Communicate with company personnel/customer on progress of technical manual development.
Work closely with technical publications to develop train‑the‑trainer courseware.
Responsible for conducting structured classroom instruction and simulator On‑the‑Job Training (OJT) for all aspects of operation and maintenance of the simulator and its associated equipment.
Develop all training materials using in‑house/vendor provided documentation.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
3+ years experience as a technical writer or instructor.
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications a plus.
Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.
Preferred Skills
Ability to read/understand electrical and mechanical drawings, parts lists, and system indices a plus.
Experience authoring/editing technical manuals for the military.
Familiar with publications lifecycle from gathering sources, to writing outlines, to delivering the final product.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PTC Arbortext Editor experience a plus.
Familiarity with hardware CAD tools a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Word required.
Experience with Adobe suite a plus.
Experience within the operation and maintenance of full‑flight simulators preferable.
Able to travel.
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance.
Security Responsibilities
Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need‑to‑know. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.
Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
Must be able to work in an office environment at a cube desk for a minimum of forty hours per week.
May occasionally have to go to closed rooms, high bay or other manufacturing areas to see the work that needs to be performed.
