Job Overview
We’re looking for a dynamic, curious, and driven Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join our team. This role is perfect for a storyteller who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to own the full story from pitch to publish. You’ll research, write, shoot, edit, and deliver compelling content across broadcast and digital platforms while building strong connections within the community.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain extensive community contacts and awareness of local, state and national current events.
Collaborate with the News Director and other news managers to choose stories to broadcast considering audience preferences.
Meet with the News Director, reporters and other news anchors to be briefed on the day's news.
Revise scripts and prepare to deliver them on-air.
Organize the news to present the most interesting pieces first, ensure late-breaking news is added to newscasts.
Introduce news correspondents reporting on scene and ask relevant questions.
Interview guests and other members involved in particular stories engaging in commentary.
Keep abreast of news developments by studying papers, attending events, and staying in contact with industry professionals.
Write for station's website and maintain an active social media presence.
Make daily promotional community appearances.
Provide newsroom leadership and contribute to overall team effort.
Comply with the moral code of the journalistic profession.
Shoot and edit stories for broadcast and digital.
Drive company vehicle to and from stories under various driving conditions. Obey all traffic laws and safety rules of the road while in a company vehicle. Report any problems or concerns with the vehicle and traffic incidents promptly to appropriate company representative. If assigned to take a news vehicle home, must follow take home car guidelines which included securing equipment and vehicle. Keep car clean and in good condition. Ensure equipment is in good working condition.
Qualifications
Bachelor's in Communication, Speech or related field with at least 1 year of experience as a television news reporter or a combination of education and experience to meet the requirements of the position.
Quick and effective decision making, live ad‑libbing and maintaining performance under extreme pressure.
Highly developed public speaking and interpersonal skills along with exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Professional, consistent on‑air appearance and ability to read Teleprompter.
Advanced abilities in critical thinking.
Broad knowledge of local, national and international affairs (e.g. political, economic, legislative and cultural).
Comfortable yet professional presence on camera with the ability to improvise in a live on‑camera setting.
Maintain appropriate and strict standards regarding wardrobe, hair, cosmetics and grooming.
Available to work on a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Ability to work under stressful conditions and strict deadlines.
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Work outdoors in extreme heat and cold.
Average pushing and pulling, bending and stooping.
Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to manipulate computer keys and camera equipment as well as general office equipment (telephone, copier, etc.).
Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license and a safe driving history as determined by the Company. (Driving record will be checked.)
Additional Information
This position is subject to pre‑employment driving record background check. A conviction, violation pending adjudication, or adverse driving record more than 3 years old or does not meet the major violation definition per company policy will not, on its own, disqualify an applicant. The company will use background check information in a confidential, non‑discriminatory manner consistent with applicable federal, state and local law.
Compensation and Benefits
When extending an offer, the company considers a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the candidate's work experience, education/training & key skills as well as internal peer equity and other market and business considerations.
The range for this position is $19.00 - $28.00 per hour.
