Job Summary
As Senior Relationship Manager for CRE Specialty, you will own complex commercial real estate loan relationships from business development through closing. You’ll manage deal origination, negotiate terms, and maintain a high-quality portfolio. This role requires collaboration across multiple teams and a strong commitment to regulatory compliance and risk management. We’re building out our CRE specialty practice and looking for experienced relationship managers to help drive growth.
Role Summary
The Senior Relationship Manager manages commercial real estate loan relationships of all levels of complexity. Generates new business and relationships that produce revenue from companies, sponsors, developers and businesses. Generates deal flow directly from these clients/prospects and orchestrates a team approach to the relationship. Supported by product specialists, portfolio managers, and operational support specialists but remains accountable for all aspects of the relationship. Responsible for the origination, negotiation, structuring, pricing, underwriting, and closing of loans. Manages a complex commercial loan portfolio ensuring the highest loan quality with minimal risk and oversees ongoing monitoring of portfolio quality and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines. May mentor and assist less experienced Relationship Managers.
Job Responsibilities
Develop and maintain relationships to generate direct deal flow; coordinate the team approach to approving and closing new deals to grow assets and revenues while optimizing profitability.
Work with assigned portfolio managers, engage with sponsors and borrowers on idea generation and relevant opportunities to expand the relationship.
Ensure proactive monitoring of the credit quality of the portfolio through timely financial statement gathering, monitoring client’s compliance with ongoing required reporting, analyzing financial information and recommending appropriate corrective actions.
Ultimately responsible for managing the bank’s risk exposure to acceptable levels.
Collaborate with Credit team and outside counsel to prepare credit approval documents and manage onboarding to ensure transactions are booked appropriately.
Stay abreast of industry trends and market conditions that could impact the assigned portfolio of relationships and borrowers.
Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions.
Analyze and resolve problems.
May be responsible for talent management functions including employment, performance evaluations, staff development/training, disciplinary actions, succession planning and ensuring compliance with all staff requirements.
Additional Accountabilities
Perform special projects and additional duties and responsibilities as required.
Consistently adhere to regulatory and compliance policies and standards and complete required compliance trainings; maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Job Requirements – Required Qualifications
Undergraduate degree (four years or equivalent) in business, finance or related field.
Ten or more years of experience as a Commercial Lending Relationship Manager and/or commercial lending sales.
Some experience in commercial credit may substitute for production experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Formal credit training preferred.
Job Competencies
Expert knowledge of commercial lending credit, underwriting and loan structuring skills.
Expert analytical skills to understand financial and cash flow analyses.
Highly developed negotiation skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience utilizing a calling strategy to actively call prospects and build a network of clients to source deals.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders by communicating clearly and engaging in proactive collaboration.
Align relationship building efforts with enterprise goals to accelerate performance and drive strategic results.
Build trusted client relationships, identifying needs and delivering tailored solutions.
Foster or support a positive work culture and productive work environment.
Some travel may be required.
