About the Role
Our client, a leading national retailer recognized for its strong in-house creative and marketing capabilities, is seeking an Art Director to support their motion media and content strategy team. This is a contractor role (20-40 hours per week) focused on developing compelling, high-impact video content that supports brand storytelling and strategic initiatives.
This position plays a key role in concepting, directing, and producing video content that is visually engaging and emotionally resonant across digital and social channels. The ideal candidate brings both creative vision and hands-on execution, with the ability to operate as both an Art Director and content creator.

Job Description
The Art Director will lead the creative development and execution of video content across multiple projects, partnering closely with cross-functional creative and production teams. This role requires a strong ability to translate strategy into engaging visual storytelling while maintaining high creative standards throughout the production lifecycle.

Develop and present video concepts in partnership with creative leadership, ensuring alignment with brand strategy and target audiences
Create compelling narratives, mood boards, and storyboards to define the visual and emotional direction of content
Help establish and maintain the creative vision, style, tone, and quality across projects
Collaborate with producers and cross-functional teams throughout the production lifecycle
Provide on-set art direction, including guidance on talent, composition, camera work, and overall execution
Shoot and edit short-form video content, serving as a hands-on content creator in addition to directing
Oversee post-production, providing direction on editing, pacing, transitions, color, sound, and overall polish
Manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and budget considerations are met
Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in video concepting and art direction
Strong portfolio demonstrating video direction and content creation (portfolio must be included)
Proven ability to tell authentic, engaging stories through video
Experience creating content for social media platforms and understanding of current trends
Strong visual aesthetic and ability to create emotionally engaging content
Deep understanding of video production processes, including shoot direction, lighting, sound, and post-production
Proficiency in video editing and motion tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects
Ability to provide on-set direction and oversee end-to-end video production
Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication, presentation, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
Willingness and ability to travel for production shoots as needed
Technical expertise in video direction and video content creation
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of sound design principles
Experience with animation and motion graphics
Color grading or colorist experience
