K 5 Media Specialist/Librarian - STEM Campus

Primary Purpose

Plan, implement, and manage a dynamic K 5 Library Media Center program that supports literacy, STEM learning, technology integration, and student inquiry. The Media Specialist/Librarian will foster a love of reading while integrating STEM fluency skills, the Engineering Design Process (EDP), robotics, and Texas Technology Applications TEKS into meaningful learning experiences that support student achievement and innovation.

The Media Specialist/Librarian will collaborate with teachers and campus leadership to create engaging opportunities for students to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate productively, and solve real-world problems through literacy, research, technology, and hands-on STEM experiences.

Qualifications

Education/Certification
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate
3 years teaching experience preferred
Library certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification
Special Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of children's and adolescent literature
Knowledge of library science, media center operations, and information literacy
Knowledge of instructional technology, digital citizenship, and Texas Technology Applications TEKS
Knowledge of STEM instructional practices, robotics integration, and the Engineering Design Process
Ability to integrate literacy, technology, STEM fluency skills, and inquiry-based learning into student experiences
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and campus staff
Ability to manage student behavior and maintain a positive learning environment
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group settings
Experience

Classroom teaching experience preferred
Experience integrating technology and/or STEM instruction preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Library Media Program

Manage and maintain an organized, welcoming, and student-centered Library Media Center
Cultivate a lifelong love of reading by exposing students to diverse literature and meaningful literacy experiences
Support district literacy initiatives and ensure equitable access to books and resources for all students
Maintain and organize library collections, circulation systems, digital resources, and inventory
Promote independent reading, inquiry, creativity, and responsible information use
STEM and Technology Integration

Integrate STEM fluency skills, including critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity, into library and technology lessons
Implement and support the Engineering Design Process through hands-on STEM learning opportunities
Facilitate robotics, coding, maker-space, and technology-based learning experiences appropriate for K 5 students
Teach Texas Technology Applications TEKS through Learning.com and other approved instructional resources
Ensure compliance with CIPA through a defined scope and sequence for digital citizenship and responsible technology use
Incorporate keyboarding lessons and technology skills into Library Media Center instructional time
Collaborate with teachers to integrate technology, research, STEM, and information literacy into classroom instruction
Collaboration and Curriculum Support

Partner with classroom teachers to support curriculum goals and student learning
Assist teachers and students in locating instructional materials and research resources
Provide professional support related to technology integration, information literacy, and instructional resources
Support campus and district academic initiatives and intervention efforts
Manage and maintain campus social media platforms by creating graphics, promoting campus events and activities, and communicating positive stories that highlight student achievement, staff accomplishments, and campus culture
Student Access and Checkout Procedures

Work collaboratively with teachers to assist students in locating and checking out books appropriate to their reading levels and interests
Support flexible access to library resources throughout the instructional day
Implement district checkout procedures while encouraging student choice and literacy development
Professional Responsibilities

Maintain professional standards, ethical practices, and confidentiality
Participate in district and campus professional development opportunities
Comply with district policies and state and federal regulations
Maintain accurate records and reports related to library circulation, technology usage, and instructional support
Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or district administration

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of library materials and technology equipment. Frequent interaction with students, staff, and parents.
