Job Summary
KY3 in Springfield, MO (market 72) is looking for a weekend anchor/MMJ. Candidate should be energetic, creative, value hard work, and be a great storyteller. The successful candidate will solo anchor weekend newscasts and MMJ during the week. If you love community service and meeting the public, this is the job for you. KY3 hosts many community events and produces special reports. We need an anchor who will be involved in day‑to‑day newsroom operations, mentor staff, and help with research stories. You must have MMJ and fill‑in anchor experience. Please do not apply if you do not have a reel.

Duties and Responsibilities

Program and smoothly operate a touchscreen on‑air

Move around on set during the newscast—standing and sitting

Research, gather, shoot, write, edit, and report news stories for on‑air and online in an accurate, appealing, timely, and creative way using all sources; produce regular franchise or special reports as assigned by the news director

Write in a clear, concise, conversational manner; review scripts thoroughly before going on‑air

Possess excellent interview and conversational writing/presentation skills

Report live on‑scene, especially during breaking news or weather

Develop and maintain sources of information and knowledge about assignments

Demonstrate sound news judgment and journalistic ethics; collaborate with others to present the story in the best possible way

Mentor other staff members

Ad‑lib for hours during breaking news, election coverage, or weather

Utilize non‑linear editing equipment on a daily basis

Produce enterprise hard‑news, research‑driven packages under tight deadlines

Participate in story selection meetings; provide daily lead story ideas centering on safety and security

Attend, host, or speak at community service, schools, and community events regularly (several times a month); meet and greet viewers

Post and regularly update stories and other material on the web and social media per station requirements; interact with viewers on social media, including Facebook Lives, regularly

Communicate with web staff and other appropriate staff during breaking news

Follow clothing and appearance guidelines set by the news director

Be a visual storyteller; perform creative stand‑ups and explanatory, live shots when needed

Work evenings, weekends, mornings, and holidays as required

Learn and possess a broad working knowledge of the viewing area, including people, places, things, and history

Provide critique, feedback, and training as part of the job

Perform other job‑related duties as assigned

Carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras

Demonstrate strong initiative and attention to detail

Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community

Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving in a manner that meshes well with co‑workers, supervisors, and viewers

Stay current with national and local news/weather, knowing what is happening in the community

Qualifications

At least three years anchored at a local or network television station

On‑air video reel required for application

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field preferred

Experience with ENPS and Grass Valley Edius editing considered a plus
