It sets enterprise digital strategy, translates commercial objectives into a coherent portfolio of investments, and defines standards and operating models that enable scalable execution across programs and products. The Opportunity

The Head of Digital Strategy, Excellence & Standards leads the strategic agenda of GDDA within Pharma Commercial. Responsibilities include shaping the GDDA strategic plan, ensuring coherence with core mandates, translating enterprise priorities into clear objectives, designing the operating model, establishing global and local standards, and enabling change across the digital ecosystem. The role represents GDDA in leadership forums, develops executive narratives, and builds a team to deliver these mandates.

What You Will Be Working On

Strategy & Standards

  • Lead development and evolution of the enterprise GDDA strategy, including mandate definition, ambition setting, and a multi‑year capability vision aligned with enterprise priorities.
  • Define and evolve testable, repeatable, and scalable global standards across digital products, data, technology, and ways of working.
  • Engage in enterprise strategic conversations to ensure pharma commercial priorities are represented.
  • Continuously refresh, connect, and groom strategy based on value metrics and external signals.

Operating Model & Organizational Capabilities

  • Design and evolve the GDDA operating model, decision rights, governance forums, and product‑centric ways of working.
  • Shape interfaces across Roche Pharma, defining how GDDA collaborates with adjacent organizations.
  • Clarify interfaces, roles, and decision‑making boundaries to enable a scalable, networked operating model.
  • Define strategic prioritization frameworks and decision principles for investment evaluation.
  • Establish global vs. local operating model guardrails and operationalize through portfolio and product teams.
  • Define enterprise digital capability model and workforce strategy, including critical roles, team structures, and capacity planning.
  • Set enterprise standards for digital roles, career paths, and skill development, partnering with People & Culture.

Change & Enablement, Team Leadership

  • Design and lead change‑enablement strategies for GDDA‑wide initiatives.
  • Oversee knowledge sharing, best‑practice dissemination, and continuous improvement across digital ecosystem.
  • Build, develop, and lead a high‑performing strategy team of managers and analysts.

Chief Of Staff Responsibilities

  • Own the digital planning cadence to ensure coherence across GDDA priorities and initiatives.
  • Lead development of executive‑level strategic narratives.
  • Advocate for GDDA mandate in enterprise and senior leadership forums.
  • Orchestrate GDDA leadership team preparations for key decision moments and stakeholder engagements.

Qualifications

Minimum Candidate Qualifications and Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting, or digital/data leadership within pharma, life sciences, or large‑scale tech organizations.
  • 8+ years leading, coaching, or mentoring talent.
  • Product or digital background, capable of credible engagement on digital product strategy, data platforms, and/or AI/ML.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior strategic partner to C‑suite or SVP‑level.
  • Strong executive communication skills, synthesizing ambiguity into clear strategic narratives.
  • Experience with organizational design, operating model evaluation, or enterprise transformation initiatives.
  • Experience leading organizational change, enablement, or transformation programs within complex matrixed environments.
  • Comfortable navigating political complexity and stakeholder dynamics across multiple business units and geographies.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) or equivalent experience in a strategy or operating‑model design context.
  • Prior experience in a data/digital organization strategy role at a pharma or large‑scale tech company.

Location

Basel is the preferred location with South San Francisco as a secondary location.

Travel Requirements

This is a global role requiring high flexibility and frequent international business travel.
