Overview
The Lewis‑Sebring Executive Director of the Loeb Center for Career Exploration and Planning at Amherst College leads a flagship career‑services program that aligns with the college’s liberal‑arts mission. The Center guides undergraduate students and recent alumni toward meaningful post‑college opportunities while engaging faculty in holistic student development.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Provost and Dean of the Faculty, the Executive Director manages all services provided by the Loeb Center, supervises a staff of 18 educators, oversees the Alumni‑in‑Residence program, stewards the Alumni Advisory Council, and maintains a $1.6 million operating budget.
The role includes assessing the Center’s current services and organizational structure, identifying emerging career dynamics and technology trends such as artificial intelligence, and redirecting or expanding offerings to meet current and future student needs.
The Executive Director also serves as a key advisor to faculty and other college leaders on the evolving world of work, fostering partnerships with alumni, parents and employers.
Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree in an arts‑and‑sciences discipline and a minimum of five years of responsible leadership or management experience in a college or university career center, human resources, professional development or workforce development.
Advanced degree preferred. Candidates must demonstrate understanding of the role of a highly selective national liberal‑arts college, skill in engaging faculty, and competency in stewarding relationships with alumni, parents, and employers.
Proficiency in evaluating and implementing technology in career services and emerging best practices in artificial intelligence is an advantage. Strong communication, interpersonal and motivational skills, ability to manage multiple projects, entrepreneurial disposition, and innovative mindset are required.
