Position Summary

The Unit Director directs and manages overall daily operations of the designated Club with regard to programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations, and membership recruitment, retention, and administration. The Unit Director develops and maintains outstanding relationships with the school administration and remains inclusive in decision making processes.

Leadership

  • Establish Unit programs, activities, and services with the Lead Program Coordinator and Teen Program Coordinator that prepare youth for success and that create a Club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • In conjunction with the Area Director and COO, ensure a healthy and safe environment through facilities management and supply maintenance
  • Provide leadership and vision to staff and youth members to ensure that the Club meets objectives and effectively executes the organization’s mission

Strategic Planning

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate Unit overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests; compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation
  • Advance the organization’s mission within the Club in all aspects of operations and management through proper planning and alignment of goals

Program Development and Implementation

  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for members, drop‑in members, and visitors
  • Meet priority outcome areas through execution of programs that are age appropriate and developmentally suitable; conduct regular quality assessments to ensure program objectives are met
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Club at all times; prepare periodic activity reports

Resource Management

  • Manage Unit financial resources by assisting in the development of annual budgets and controlling expenditures against budget
  • Complete appropriate data tracking and reporting according to organization and grant requirements; ensure daily requirements are met by program staff and daily membership tracking is completed; collaborate with resource development team to ensure that grant reports are complete and timely
  • Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club, including coordinating with Area Director on use of facilities by outside groups
  • Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for staff and volunteers; conduct regular staff meetings

Partnerships and Public Relations

  • Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders, and external organizations
  • Refer and coordinate any building usage requests by outside groups to the Area Director
  • Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services, and activities within the Club and the community

Additional Duties

  • Create and supports opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human‑centered organizational culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 2‑3 years of experience managing people, processes, and facilities, preferably in a youth‑serving organization
  • Experience working with young people, parents, and community leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff
  • Strong communication skills, Spanish fluency a plus
  • Ability to deal effectively with youth members, including behavior management
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management

Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred but not required, preferably with an education, youth development, or similar focus
  • Valid driver’s license for 3 years required
  • CPR First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
  • Ability to maintain both visual and auditory supervision of youth members
