Videographer

The Illinois Office of Communication & Information is looking for an energetic, creative visual storyteller who is willing to travel throughout the State of Illinois to create video content for use on social media, the internet, broadcast television and emerging media. This news videographer will be responsible for planning, producing, and directing talent for various video productions such as training videos, public service announcements, commercials, live video productions, or other informational content. The videographer must be prepared for extensive travel across the State to cover news conferences and events – sometimes on short notice.
Position Summary:
Under administrative direction, serves as videographer, producing and shooting for video productions. Performs statewide field productions and editing of news events as designated by the Governor's Office, constitutional officers, elected officials, State agencies, Boards, and Commissions. Plans, directs, shoots, and monitors the video production and duplication sections. Serves as liaison between the agencies and the news media regarding distribution of videos. Assists the Operations Manager as assigned, serves as backup and support for other technicians during high-volume periods. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college with courses in journalism, English, and public speaking. Requires two (2) years of professional experience in informational writing, research, or dissemination of information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefers two (2) years of professional experience working with current broadcast and Electronic Field Production (EFP) equipment and/or with various formats of media recording and basic non-linear editing experience as part of electronic news gathering. Prefers two (2) years of professional experience in studio video production including, but not limited to planning, developing, shooting, and/or directing a video production. Prefers two (2) years of professional experience recording (in studio and/or on location) and editing training videos. Prefers one (1) year of professional experience coordinating, editing, and revising the work activities of crew members.
Conditions of Employment:
Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends. Requires ability to travel extensively statewide in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver's license. Requires the ability to use agency technology/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.) properly in accordance with information security awareness policies and confidentiality guidelines. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
