Communications Assistant
The Communications Assistant helps create and distribute communications and marketing materials related to the work of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services and its departments. Reporting to the Program Director, (Associate Director, Communications and Events), the Communications Assistant will help create, proof and edit content for unit websites, email, and social media that align to university and OVCAS branding standards and will also provide logistical support to a variety of internal and external meetings and events.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Creates content for unit emails, web pages, social media, invitations and various types of marketing collateral.
Prepares organizational publications and reports; develops or edits visual media or graphic elements of publications or web pages.
Proofs and edits reports, documents, newsletters and social media posts produced by OVCAS departments and staff; ensures compliance with university and OVCAS branding and style guides.
Helps to coordinate logistics for unit job fairs, employee recognition events, tabling activities and receptions.
Assists with tracking projects and deliverables using the OVCAS Communications ticketing system; maintains asset libraries for native files and images.
Travel to previously scheduled events.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in public relations, advertising, communications, or a related field.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in communications, promotions, public relations, advertising, or event planning.
Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience working in a busy communications or advertising environment.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Ability to interpret, condense, and edit information for various media formats.
Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) Style.
Demonstrated time management and organizational skills and the ability to respond quickly to customer requests.
