The Department
Outreach, Recruitment & Educational Partnerships (OREP) is responsible for outreach and recruitment of prospective domestic undergraduate students, enrollment planning, and reporting. OREP promotes the university’s image, attracts diverse and high‑achieving applicants, builds relationships with campus and external constituents, and provides timely, accurate services to students and stakeholders. OREP provides outreach and recruitment programs and strategic communication to prospective students, schools, community organizations, and delivers student services supporting recruitment, college readiness, and persistence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Content Creation & Graphic Design:
Develop and produce graphic materials such as invitations, newsletters, brochures, web banners, booklets, flyers, agendas, and digital ads for OREP projects, programs, and events.
Follow written specifications, style guides, and brand standards when creating visual assets.
Support layout and pre‑press production processes, preparing files for digital and print distribution.
Contribute to visual development with basic creativity, using established marketing goals and concepts.
Collaborate with supervisors and senior team members for artistic direction, ensuring consistency in style and thematic alignment.
Apply standard procedures and workflows, making routine design decisions within guidelines.
Support development and implementation of the unified marketing plan for future students.
Ensure graphic and digital communications are clear, accurate, and aligned with institutional messaging.
Provide feedback and edits to improve communication materials.
Draft and update communication timelines to ensure timely delivery of messages.
Coordinate production of printed materials and communication pieces for the department.
Utilize systems to engage future students and coordinate follow‑up with the department.
Assist with creation, development, production, and distribution of the OREP newsletter.
Draft and maintain a virtual graphics toolkit with templates for various platforms.
Digital Communications:
Draft, write, edit, and proofread digital content for email, social media, and web platforms targeting prospective students.
Maintain content calendars for social media; monitor engagement and respond to inquiries.
Utilize Slate CRM and CMS tools to manage communications and segment audiences.
Analyze engagement metrics to assess communication effectiveness and recommend improvements.
Explore new digital tools (e.g., chat, texting) to improve engagement.
Ensure web content remains updated, accurate, and relevant.
Help implement market research insights into outreach and marketing campaigns.
Consult with Strategic Communications and academic departments to align visual and written content with university branding and messaging standards.
Coordinate with faculty, staff, designers, and photographers on publications and promotional efforts.
Collect stakeholder feedback to refine multimedia marketing strategies.
Support staff and student assistants in communication, design, and outreach projects.
Signature Events Support:
Provide live social media updates and real‑time coverage at OREP signature events.
Draft multimedia marketing plans and post‑event reports capturing key metrics.
Capture photos and stories for post‑event communications and archives.
Ensure communication materials and signage are available and distributed appropriately.
Collaborate with Strategic Communications for media coverage and promotional efforts.
Distribute surveys and reviews post‑event to improve future events.
Maintain and update a database of stakeholders for event invitations and communications.
OREP Administrative Support:
Participate in OREP and division staff development, meetings, and major events.
Conduct testing of systems used by OREP such as Cal State Apply and Slate.
Adhere to laws and policies regarding computer data, records, and accounting.
Advise prospective students on CSU admission policies.
Prepare and utilize outreach reports detailing application, admission, enrollment trends.
Perform administrative duties as assigned, including support at the department service desk and telephones.
Work extended hours, weekends, and evenings to support OREP programs.
Rotate to perform customer service duties and support the front‑facing counter as needed.
Ensure compliance and maintain integrity of prospective student records.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience as specified.
Valid driver’s license in the state.
Entry‑level professional applying basic concepts to limited‑scope problems, operating under guidelines.
General knowledge of marketing, branding, communications, or public relations.
General knowledge of copyright and confidentiality laws relevant to written materials.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Knowledge of media outlets including print, television, and radio.
Ability to work with the media to cover events.
Skill in following guidelines and providing feedback.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for a diverse environment.
Ability to analyze information and summarize into clear statements.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, building relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
Computer skills to use relevant technology and software as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with graphic/web design tools such as Cascade and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience creating and editing engaging graphics or video content for social media, websites, and marketing projects.
Experience with web content management systems.
Copy editing and proofreading experience.
Knowledge of accessible content best practices on social media.
Customer‑service orientation with experience in a public‑facing role.
Two years of social media management experience (oversight of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for a company, institution, or brand.
