KX News is hiring a full-time Production Technician to support daily broadcast operations across our newscasts, KX News+ streaming app, and Studio 701 productions. This role works hands-on with producers, directors, reporters, and engineering staff to keep our shows on the air and looking sharp. The right person is a strong multitasker, calm under pressure, and brings a creative eye to every part of the production process.
What You'll Do
Run studio production gear during live newscasts and Studio 701 shows, including camera, audio, CG, prompter, and switcher as assigned
Edit and assemble Studio 701 episodes from raw studio recordings, shaping pacing, audio, and graphics for broadcast and streaming release
Build news graphics, lower thirds, and story elements in support of daily newscasts and Studio 701 productions using Adobe Creative Cloud (After Effects, Photoshop, Premiere)
Shoot news content in the field when needed, capturing interviews, b-roll, and natural sound for daily stories and long-form projects
Support news gathering and storytelling by helping reporters edit packages, build graphics, and turn material on deadline
Assist with broadcast engineering tasks including signal monitoring, equipment troubleshooting, and routine maintenance on studio and field gear
Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues
Selects sources from which programming will be received, or through which programming will be transmitted
Assist engineering and other teams with various needs that may include lifting and manual labor
Set up and strike studio lighting, microphones, and camera positions for newscasts, specials, and Studio 701 productions
Run quality control on incoming feeds, live shots, and recorded content, fixing audio or video errors before air
Move with speed and accuracy during breaking news, severe weather, and live continuing coverage
Send KX News content to the network and Nexstar sister stations when requested
Additional duties as required
What We're Looking For
2–4 years of experience in broadcast production, studio operations, or a related field
Working knowledge of studio production equipment including switchers, audio boards, cameras, and CG systems
Comfortable with non-linear editing. Adobe Creative Cloud and ENPS experience a plus
Basic understanding of broadcast engineering concepts and signal flow
Strong eye for graphics, framing, and visual storytelling
Ability to lift and move production equipment as needed
Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as news , production , and engineering demands
