Job Description
THE POSITION:
The most important aspect of the position of the Associate Director of Global Scientific Communications is to lead the strategic and operational delivery of scientific communications with a strong emphasis on publications planning, development, and execution. This role also serves as both Client Manager and Project Manager for these projects, overseeing end-to-end publication strategy, scientific content development, and dissemination aligned with client objectives and global publication guidelines (e.g., ICMJE, GPP). Additionally, this individual will be part of the MA leadership team that will support development of MA strategies, solution offerings, technology / innovation, and building and managing MA teams as applicable. This person will collaborate closely with other global leaders within our Global Medical Information and Medical Affairs service line and other business units across EVERSANA to further strengthen the vision of an Integrated Medical Affairs solution offering. This person may partner with other Medical Affairs leads by managing multiple complex deliverables for internal and external clients with a team of resources, including both full-time employees and consultants.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Publications Strategy & Execution
Lead development and execution of global publication plans (manuscripts, abstracts, posters, congress presentations).
Ensure alignment with scientific communication strategies and lifecycle plans.
Oversee authorship planning, journal targeting, and submission processes.
Ensure compliance with GPP, ICMJE, and publication ethics standards.
Medical Communications & Content Development
Lead creation of high-quality scientific content including manuscripts, congress materials, slide decks, and scientific platforms.
Oversee medical writing teams to ensure accuracy, quality, and timely delivery.
Support development of other medical content development including Medical Information and Field Medical materials, literature surveillance and reports, etc.
Project & Client Management
Serve as primary point of contact (Client / Project Manager) for clients on scientific communications and publications projects.
Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for multiple concurrent projects.
Oversee project teams composed of internal staff and external consultants, ensuring effective collaboration and resource utilization.
Medical Affairs Strategy & Leadership
Contribute to the development and execution of Global Medical Affairs strategies, aligning with broader organizational goals and client needs.
Actively participate in the MA leadership team to shape solution offerings, drive innovation, and support business growth.
Support the design and implementation of scalable Medical Affairs models and frameworks across therapeutic areas and geographies.
Lead and manage the development of the positioning and marketing information related to our Publication and Scientific Communication services. Including, oversight of capabilities presentations, development of case studies, white papers, publications, and information on EVERSANA.com.
Create/Drive Thought leadership in partnership with MA / MI leadership team across via position papers, webinars, conferences, social media, and other channels, collaborating with marketing and commercialization team to run marketing campaigns on new opportunities.
Operational Excellence & Innovation
Drive continuous improvement in Medical Affairs operations, including process optimization, technology adoption, and performance metrics.
Champion the integration of digital tools and platforms to enhance medical content delivery, stakeholder engagement, and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and implement innovative approaches to Medical Affairs service delivery.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with leaders across Global Medical Information, Global Medical Affairs, and other EVERSANA business units to deliver integrated, best-in-class solutions.
Facilitate cross-functional alignment and communication to ensure consistency and excellence in Medical Affairs deliverables.
Represent Medical Affairs in strategic discussions with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and industry partners.
Team Development & Management
Manage and mentor medical / scientific writers and publication managers.
Build capability in scientific storytelling and publication excellence.
Build, mentor, and manage high-performing Medical Affairs teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members (FTEs and consultants) to ensure capability alignment with evolving business needs.
Promote knowledge sharing and best practices across teams and projects.
Client Servicing & Relationship Management
Cultivate Trusted Partnerships: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with client stakeholders, acting as a strategic advisor and trusted partner in Medical Affairs transformation.
Client Satisfaction & Retention: Monitor client satisfaction through regular check-ins, feedback loops, and performance reviews; proactively address concerns to ensure high retention and repeat business.
Strategic Account Growth: Identify opportunities to expand EVERSANA’s footprint within client organizations by aligning new offerings with evolving client needs and priorities.

Responsible for and oversee their respective department.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE JOB:
Hours: Monday-Friday, 40+ Hours/week
Travel: Up to 25%.

Qualifications
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education : Medical / Scientific degree, PharmD, MD, PhD, etc.
Experience : 5+ years in medical communications / scientific communications with strong experience in publications planning and execution.
Advanced understanding of publication guidelines, including Good Publication Practice (GPP) guidelines, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), PRISMA, CONSORT, STROBE, CARE, etc.
Experience developing and executing strategic publication plan, integrated medical communication strategy & plan, scientific platform, lexicon, etc.
Proven track record in manuscript development and congress deliverables.
Experience managing publication vendors and authors.
Advanced computer and technology skills, including knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Veeva Systems, search engines, Publication management software, reference management software, etc.
Experience conducting literature searches and working with tools such as PubMed, Ovid, Embase, etc.
Experience working with reference management and citation software (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley, Citavi, etc.)
Excellent project management skills and proven track record of being results driven
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) certification
Demonstrated experience with project management, including vendor and / or technology management
Experience with developing other medical content including Field Medical, Medical Information, Medical Advisory Board.
Results driven and team-oriented, with the ability to influence outcomes as necessary
Able to innovate, analyze, and solve problems with minimal supervision. Passion for technology, innovation (including AI), and process improvement
Exceptional attention to detail and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to manage multi-client projects simultaneously while advancing company goals / initiatives
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with clients
Experience working in Agile culture, ability to effectively manage shifting priorities, and experience in fast-paced environment is a plus
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to reach, grasp, stand and/or sit for long periods of time (up to 90% of the shift), walk, talk and hear; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet, with frequent interruptions and multiple demands.
