Salary
$105,700 to $127,300 annually, based on five to fifteen plus years of experience in the Denver Metro market.
Summary
The Media Relations and Storytelling Manager brings NARF’s mission and work to life through bold, accessible, and culturally relevant message development and storytelling that makes issues feel personal and resonant for NARF’s audiences. The role builds and maintains relationships with journalists and media outlets, crafts compelling narratives aligned with the organization’s mission, values, and goals, and blends strategic communication, crisis management, and creative storytelling to shape public perception and drive engagement.
Responsibilities and Key Duties
Manage and triage incoming media requests and coordinate with reporters and organizational spokespeople for interviews.
Prepare press materials—including press releases, pitches, media advisories, and written statements.
Write compelling case updates and summaries for the website and other NARF‑owned media.
Advise on how to frame NARF’s written materials to make them compelling and accessible.
Monitor for misinformation, disinformation, and negative press coverage; execute crisis communications strategies to protect NARF’s reputation.
Track and report press coverage and refine media strategies accordingly.
Prepare staff and clients for media interactions, including messaging consistency and talking points.
Serve as departmental liaison and Communications champion for assigned Legal/Development teams and projects, attending meetings and identifying communication opportunities.
Engage in professional development to stay current on media relations best practices and trends, reporting back to Communications.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications.
Additional Team Responsibilities (as needed)
Create compelling content for online and print publications.
Take and maintain photos of NARF staff, Board of Directors, clients, and events.
Manage and create video content.
Update and maintain NARF’s website using HTML and WordPress.
Collaborate on projects across the communications spectrum, such as copywriting, website design, donor relations, and more.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (preferred).
5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, preferably at a nonprofit, legal, or tribal organization.
Experience with media management and outreach.
Skills and Abilities
Write clearly, concisely, and logically; expertise in AP style and legal writing (preferred).
Consistent track record of compelling writing on legal, advocacy, justice, Native American, or similar topics.
Efficient work habits: meet deadlines and honor schedules.
Strong judgment, sensitivity, and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Work autonomously with high degree of independence.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of constituencies.
Highly organized self‑starter comfortable in a fast‑moving organization.
Understanding of Indian Law and Tribal‑U.S. relations (preferred).
Familiarity with Native American culture and/or experience working with Tribal Nations or Indigenous Peoples (preferred).
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed; some local and national travel required.
Physical demands: extended periods of sitting, using computer equipment, occasional stooping, standing or carrying, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs with assistance.
