Position Summary
As a member of the University Marketing & Communications team, you will inform, engage, and entertain audiences with timely, relevant, and appropriate content across multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X. The role focuses on quick‑turnaround content aligned with current and emerging trends and the CMU brand, aiming to increase CMU’s presence and relevance on its primary social media channels.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, digital media, communications, or a related field.

Experience developing content for a group, organization, or business on major social media platforms.

Experience working with multidisciplinary or multifunctional teams to complete projects.

Proficiency with video recording and editing on mobile devices, especially Apple iPhones.

Highly creative and self‑motivated.

Detail‑oriented and goal‑focused.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated confidence in meeting and working with new people.

Ability to manage multiple tasks under strict deadlines.

Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Passion for Central Michigan University or the higher education experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with best practices for social media content creation.

Experience with Adobe Rush, Adobe Express, CapCut, or other video editing tools.

Experience using social media hosting and monitoring programs such as Agorapulse, HootSuite, HubSpot, etc.

Experience driving engagement from social media content and tracking performance on goals.

Understanding of SEO and general marketing best practices.

Comfortable on camera and interacting with new people.

Duties & Responsibilities

Creates daily content for CMU’s primary social media channels on directions from the Associate and Assistant Directors of Social Media.

Produces, captures, and edits photo and video content appropriate for various stakeholder audiences on social media platforms.

Develops content to align with trends and CMU’s brand.

Collaborates with the communications team to identify current and emerging trends, developing ideas to engage CMU.

Identifies opportunities for campus‑based content and captures events and activities.

Pulls social media data from dashboards, reviews analytics, and uses findings to guide content creation.

Participates in cross‑functional team meetings to brainstorm and develop creative content.

Assists with community management, responding to comments and direct messages, and participates in social listening.

Supports the development of resources for internal stakeholders, including campus social media managers, ambassadors, and interns.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Employment
Pay Range: $45,000–$52,000 per year

Employment Status: Full‑time (1.0 FTE)

Location: Mount Pleasant, MI

Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. (may include weekends and evenings as needed)
